We are planning to travel in our camper van (Citroen Relay) to Croatia and Turkey next year. We are both over 60. Ive heard that its tricky to get insurance for countries outside EU (which Croatia and Turkey are). Any advice?

hi, you get insurance at the borders . its same throughout the world . on trips to india or through africa border insurance is the way.
should be ok for croatia and turkey but check you may need a carnet de passage . it covers the duty on the vehicle . check with the rac . they issue carnets in uk.
dont think you will need it there but many other countries you do but check.

Can certainly get mandatory liability insurance at the border (and they will make sure you do) but not necessarily comprehensive insurance to cover your own vehicle.

If you ask your insurer they may issue you with a green card to provide full cover with full cover for the countries required

Hi, Croatia joined the Eu in July 2013, as for Turkey regarding insurance and driving licence then a chat to your insurance Co and the AA would not be wasted.

Have a good trip.

Theirs an alternative travel by Ferry from Venice to Greece (unless your looking forward to a long drive) saves a lot of mileage, Ferry cost set against extra insurance and road tolls + Fuel. Camping on board with Anek Lines

We were in a similar situation earlier this year, needing cover for Morocco and wanting something more than the virtually useless piece of paper issued at the border. After much phoning around, we found Insurance Choice was one of just 3 companies willing to cover us. They have a range of regions for cover outside of Europe, and the Green Card was issued free of charge.
Before spending any money, do check your policy very carefully, as many cover you for some countries outside Europe anyway.

Hi,
can't speak about Croatia but about 12 years ago went to Turkey on motor bike and just called my insurance company and they issued me with a green card for a small fee, you can get it at the boarder but don't speak the lingo. Possibly it might be different now.
