Anyone out there insure for hiring out their camper/motorhome?

We do, but need another quote ! could do with some info on other ins co's if anyone has any information.

We are currently going through a broker and are with Highway Ins. Had to do it quite quickly at the time and it is a bit expensive so now need to check out other quotes.

Currently it is on a complete hire insurance - but would prefer to insure it as a hire vehicle only as and when it is on hire really.

That should work out less - we don't hire it out that many weeks pa. It goes out enough to cover insurance, maintenance costs and a bit of spare.

anyone got any ideas?

Hi there Paula,
We hire out VW campervans here in Orkney and have our insurance through Liverpool Victoria. It is through a broker the same as you though and is complete hire. Our broker didn't have any luck finding a 'per hire' type of option for us though..

I have to say that going through a broker is quite handy - if I have any queries about customer's insurance details I can send her a quick email/phonecall and she does all the hard work with the insurance company.

Not a lot of help I am afraid, but I would be interested if anyone had any details of a per hire type of policy.

We decided to reinsure with same people. Highway insurance through brokers. They sort it easily and quickly and as ours is not a new van it isnt too expensive. We did find and seriously think about usiong an insure per hire company this time, but decided that maybe there would be a dual insurance issue. It also worked out to be the same cost if we hired the vehicle out as much as we do now. (which isnt a huge amount to be honest).

Although the insurance company who do it on a hire by hire basis says no it woundnt be a dual insurance issue (is that called double indemnity in insurance speak?). Our other broker who handles some of our own household and private car insurances isn't so sure it would work well if there WAS an accident. Who is to say - but that vehicle is already insured so why should we payout. hmmm it needs an insurance person to answer this.

Anyone?
