Insulating my van

You are of course "certain" that there isn't insulation in the wall cavity, and not just in a small test area? Generally German vans were and still are at the leading edge in their incorporation of the latest technology especially as regards to insulation, so I'd be surprised if there was no insulation.
Of course if your van was the product of some back street startup then perhaps insulation would have cut into profit, customer can't see it so leave it out.

I guess I am not certain... I can see the outside skin in 4 different storage lockers where holes have been cut for adaptations in the past.... - at internal floor level and at work top level and at high cab-bed level - so I am assuming it is not insulated ....

Preventing heat loss seems to be the less messy and difficult way forward - at least for next winter. I have good quality thermal internal window screens, which need slight re-stitching as they were not for my vehicle. I have a good curtain betwixt cab and hab. I am going to make thermal panels for the cab overhead windows, and for the roof lights as suggested, and have just got some off cuts from a building company to do so. I have a wooden floor with thin carpet tiles on it and I have several washable rugs on top and will have a proper foam backed carpet fitted shortly.

That's exactly what I did a few months ago, don't know what the stuff is called its approx 5mm thick with foil on each side, got it from B&Q for approx. £15 a roll. I lined out the lockers, under the main bed and put two layers inside the engine cowling where it comes inside the cab, also did inside the locker doors. I would like to line under the main floor as well,as I think this is where most of the cold is coming from but I'm a bit reluctant in case I trap moisture under there, pity I hadn't thought about it before I recarpeted the interior as I might've been able to lay some insulation first. What I did certainly helped but does need a lot more areas covered to be fully effective.

hi I have measured and cut my first insulation piece ready to glue... the insulation roll is like bubble wrap with silver foil appearance on one side, and clear bubbly plastic bobbles on the other.... I am assuming that I put the silver foil side facing the external walls of the van and not facing into the cupboard ...

first cupboard done... will inspect tomorrow... and put stuff back in and see if it all stays put....

glueing the insulation materials made me feel scattier than usual.. till I opened the windows... phew... :giggle:

Sniffing glue can have an adverse effect on you - don't look in the mirror. glue.jpg

btw - whilst sorting out cupboards tonight.. I found a lot of 1940 military editions of OS maps which my dad had kept... are they worth anything and is there a specialist map-seller that you know of please ? assuming you ARE an antique man...... thanks you

If I can butt in: the earlier the edition number the higher the price, also look for any military points as in gun emplacements etc, there should be a stamp stating MOD issue. Also check for cloth maps & maps of the more obscure places.
Butting out now:)

There is value in them, if you do ebay I would put them on there individually. Alternatively, put them into auction as a job lot, you wont get mega money but it all helps. Number 2 is good, as I mentioned lower the better.

Thank you for asking me others have answered so good info yes it says antique not 1940s but very interesting and specialist subject a good map dealer would give advice but cannot help as not my subject but ebay is usually very good for collectors items and if listed correctly dealers in maps will be viewing listings which you need as they will push price up. sorry not more help. but will ask about.

Forum needs a rest pmsl:D
