In the I newspaper today

Might be worth noting the following which I received back after making my complaint;

Can I publicly share details of my complaint?

The system of self-regulation requires good faith on both sides. In order for us to be able to investigate complaints effectively, it is essential that neither a complainant or publication publishes any emails, letters or other correspondence about the complaint without IPSO’s permission. If information is shared without permission IPSO could decide to close your complaint. Material provided by both complainants and publications during an investigation must only be used for the purpose of the complaint to IPSO. You can still ask for help in making your complaint as long as the person helping also agrees not to share information.

...dunno if I have just broken that rule by my post? :D

Yeah you have. Go to jail! Do not collect £200!

A while ago some of us were successful with a couple of claims against the Express. I doubt much will happen with this though. It's just crap biased reporting.

It will likely get back to the editor though.

Have I got this right or am I not understanding their "complaint" waffle properly?

In other words: if you have enough "behind-the-scenes" evidence to prove the article is biased or misrepresents the actual facts then IPSO just get around the problem it presents to them by totally ignoring your complaint?

License to getting away with printing whatever they like. But that's been the case since forever anyway. 🤷‍♀️

I know it's on a different scale, but it's a blummin' good job Mr Bates didn't give in to the obfuscating and bullying legalese he encountered on his long and arduous journey to getting at the truth. ;)

They are a bit toothless but do take action if its warranted. Best you can hope for is a retraction and apology on page 17 on small print or buried on the website.

This article applies to a lot of people not just "wild campers". Loch Tay is an example of people thinking Scotland is a playground.

Well, I may or may not have complained to IPSA and I may or may not have received a reply back today saying "we reject your complaint" . And I may or may not be compiling a letter outlining my reasons for asking for a review of the rejection by their complaints committee for submission in the next seven days.
...... maybe 😏

You are far more arsed than I could be ...frankly life's to short.

Yep. I may or may not have had similar. 🤣

Maybe IPSA is as bent as OFCOM is.

Like everyone I'll take exception to some things and other times not be arsed, this one got me particularly wrankled. We're losing places to stay right left and centre and articles like this make things worse and spoil OUR fun, after all I, like you (I think?) choose to spend some of that 'short life' wildcamping so I think it's worth a few extra mins personally but each to their own for sure.

We are relatively new motorhomers (6 years) and have been to beautiful scotland twice. We have seen behaviour like the article describes both times and its so frustrating. We obey all signs and always find a wild camping spot thats appropiate and away from residential areas. I live in somerset and therd is a beach locally that was lenient with overnighting on the sand.. lovely. Last year up to 60 vans were regularly pitched up, and yes you guessed it, the next morning looked like the aftermath of a festival. Rubbish, fires and S### in the dunes. Now there's a height barrier and we cant even visit during the day. Be warned.

I sometimes wonder if it would help if people had to complete a course before they were allowed to hire a MH.
By chance last week I was introduced to my brother's neighbour and he mentioned he was planning to hire a camper this summer and spent 2 weeks in the Norfolk area. I casually asked him about his proposed routine about camping, water, waste disposal and he was utterly clueless. Had to show him the SFS app and suggested he avoid rough sleeping because he'd get prosecuted😏

And for those who dont want to twist the neck LOL.View attachment 131258View attachment 131259
It demonstrate "Be careful what you wish for" the bright sparks who
though up the NC 500 could'nt kno that it would be a victim of it's own success. Time for the tourist offficials to delete the NC 500 from litetature and maybe in time the problem will ease.
I've not done it, and from what i read i best stay away.
Currently in Ireland freeparked overlooking Bantry Bay with the seat of Finn McCool nearby -hoping for an undisturbed night!
Brilliant sunny weather today and forecast.

I most definitely have now received a reply back Merl rejecting my complaint.

I have told them that I won't be asking for a review because I think I will just be pissing in the wind (not in those exact words although I should have!). I did give a list of reasons why I SHOULD ask for a review but I'm guessing that they will read the first line which states "I have decided not to appeal the fact that my complaint was rejected..." at which point I expect it will be sent to 'Deleted items'.
