Hi all,

My father wants to give me his old campervan as he is moving to Malta where he won’t be needing it. The camper is currently registered and parked in Germany, where he is living. However, he will lose his “main residence” status in Germany in March. This means that from March the vehicle can no longer be insured/registered in Germany under his name. He has a garage he can store it in in Germany until August.

Could you please advise me on transfer of ownership to a family member and import/registration to the U.K.?

Also would I need to pay gift tax on the vehicle?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Miriam

Ask a polish man for proper advice or just drive it in his name your name surnames the same yes ? here uk and then register. With in six months five months and 25 days free but draw it out if I was you !
Is it left hand drive ? You say old like 3 months or 40 years old ?

If it’s German registered it will need a full IVA INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE ASSESSMENT
Done at a ministry of transport garage to do this you will have to hold a certificate of conformity , took me over five months to sort one of mine out paperwork can be a nightmare ! Don’t throw anything away even if you think you don’t need it !
Mine eventually passed the Iva and then when it came to second mot the dvla had recorded chassis number incorrectly so I then had to go back and prove they had been at fault ! Luckily it was only the last two numbers swapped around and MAN proved the next chassis number was on a different vehicle registered in europe 😳👍

there are firms such as bundesvan that used to do the imports all the time and there used to be a guy in wales would do all the import stuff

Nick Legg sold Bundesvan many years ago to a couple in Alcester, who subsequently closed the business a few years ago.

If it is a standard coachbuilt, would it still need and IVA as it should conform to all regulations? I'd assume a PVC would too so long as there were no silly adddons.

Not counting headlights of course

My standard Concorde registered 2009 in Germany needed Iva and certificate of conformity ! This was a problem as original owner had lost it and the registering dealer was out of business

i bought my van from bob & sue ( a lovely couple ) the second generation bundesvan people they gave up the business after ****** & the exchange rate but on the hymer owners group they still offer their expertise to anyone wanting t9 import

Get German export logbook which gives 3rd party insurance.drive it to Dover .get on ferry drive off through goods to declare. ,(red bit) Give them the log book they give you import documents.send them completed to Swansea .then new mot.. Swansea send you new vc5.
Unless ****** has cocked up things ..if so I've no idea now

I too would be frightened off if Pudsey liked my post. :p :ROFLMAO: ;)

Might be worth talking to these people;

Mycarimport are located in Castle Donington Rob, they moved into the place that used to be Travis Perkins, they have a good reputation around here

Bit off topic but I have owned 4 Gwagons over time, my last one, a 93’ plate 463 I advertised on Autotrader, a guy in South Africa saw it, came over and bought it and put it in a container back to SA, he sent me some lovely pics of it on safari in the bush, I wish I could afford one today.
