Implications of the POI Files ?

poi

hi channa, was nice to meet u at clumber and here ur views about poi,s.we all got our own opinion about the poi and if to tell on ur own "secret" locations.as we told u a few days ago if the poi was not available we wud av sold the van within weeks of buying it,as i was getting stressed out as i thought there was very few wildcamping sites around britain.i cannot thank everyone enuf who as put foward the locations, canalsman for putting it all together and firefox for showing me how to overlay on googlemap.there is always going to be locations added and taken away for whatever reason, but thats just life.for me the poi gets10/10-billi

Hi Billi, I hope you got to the south west safely.

Firefox in his reply, seems to have got the gist and logic behind my question, in respect of a potential self destruct button. However I would also agree there are plenty of other databases out there that people can glean spots to stop.On that basis I guess all freely available information could be construed as potentially self destructive.

I think our POI files have embraced new technoloogy and can be accessed via a satnav rather than being reliant upon trawling through the directories here and there which to some is a lot more convenient. And is the significant difference;

I know when we chatted in the early days you were anxious in the respect of wilding, and I am glad that the POI helped you pull through it all.
And I wouldnt knock that.

Anyway you are four months into the full timing and you know a lot more than you did day one all part of the fun is the learning curve.

I look forward to you sharing your experiences across the channel

My favourite spot is....I'm not telling cause i want to keep it to myself...Only kidding.

I see where peeps are coming from, but like has been said before, if tonnes of m/h turned up at the same time, i think local people, police, town officials could get a bit grumpy. But mostly when we've been out and about it's usually just me and the misses, and Hollie (Cavalier pooch). Sometimes though, i do wonder if safety in No's helps some people feel more relaxed and are going to go where they know more m/h are going to be.!

ps, our fav spot is Kilnsea.!!!

As new to the Wilding scene frankly I'd feel happier among a few others until I find my feet....from what I gather this is the normal reaction for a new wilder.

I think without a doubt John some people do take comfort in the safety in numbers idea....I know a couple who would prefer to go lonesome but either arent confident or their anxiety levels are such that they dont enjoy it.

Humans are generally social animals too, so it really isnt a surprise that th esubconscious herding instict takes over.

Kilnsea eh ??? near the little pub, or car park adjacent to the campsite. Easington to Spurn is a favourite spot of mine too, though I havent done it for years.......one can blend a little on Spurn in the fact fisherman are often night fishing from the beach and as I recall Fridays the RSPB wardens are nowhere to be seen free entry to the peninsula..

TBH on Spurn I fish the night sleep the day for a few hours and never had a problem

Rural wilding spots are more limited but urban ones are basically unlimited without the use of POI's. The motorhome gives you the freedom to use a suitable urban spot and then reach a rural area for walks in the day within 20 mins drive after waking up and having breakfast. I don't see the need to use rural places all of the time. If we spread ourselves thin and move often, we can blend into the environment.

Hi Guy’s

The reason I joined this forum is because we live in Cumbria and have motor homes, a Bongo and now a Hymer and wanted places to go out of season being mainly October to March. I don’t’ really need to wild camp I don’t mind paying but I would like there to be more options. We stayed at NT site Wasdale over Christmas and Ravenglass over New Year. Both lovely places. (So long as you are not blown up by MOD Eskdale LOL)

Baring in mind more and more motor homes on the road perhaps we should lobby our councils into providing overnight parking spaces. Shoppers will become more rare now I think. I ask who would love to park up near a pub with nice food at a reasonable cost…

We set up our local community field with hookup’s, lovely location for just such a purpose. I personally think local council’s should do more.

My thoughts

Channa - would that be in the hide CP on the right or is it ok to park through the gate by the huts in a 6.9 meter (only whiting and slugs last visit)

I park up by the old lighthouse riverside ....handy low tide for digging fresh lug........never had a problem overnight there either including the little cp by the new lighthouse ...........I know a few local lads, and I fish the seaside near telegraph pole 42 send the cheque pay pal.. and indeed at low tide you will see a gully.

there is a dead end too before the road does a kink on the way off the point another parking spot.

Before you get to the point there is a hotel bar I think it is called the riverside , I have never asked to overnight there, but it is a popular spot
when the bass are showing.

In respect of Kilnsea I assumed that the poster was referring to the little car park at the side of the big campsite there ....never tried it, parking at the side of a commercial site could attract unwanted attention .

I find Mappleton more productive than Spurn but thats probably just a little luck which we all need, I have parke dthere overnight with others in a car night fishing and I dont think an overnight in the camper would cause a problem provided the car park wasnt full of motorhomes
