i'm going to buy this, what do you all think?

The Robin:idea:

Reminds me I once saw a Reliant Robin at the end of a dual carriageway where it had failed to stop in time. Looked like an Airfix kit I had as a kid that I couldn't put together. That said I would want to be in one of these either in a smash!

Serious question though, Have you actually slept a night in your Robin?

Mmm...like it...but just think it might be a money pit to run....you can get a good second hand camper from a dealer for around 10 - 12G though perhaps not just so spacious.... so I'm not sure I would want to sink 5-6G into this...Wellhouse Leisure is just one of many dealers who have a selection of traded in vans which might be a better buy....if you go for it I'd take an RAC or similar inspector with you for an expert opinion before parting with the cash.

Hi Jen steer well clear of it i recon you will be paying out Big Bucks all the time on something of that age to keep it on the road, its nice & quirky & a classic though:tongue: but a money pit for sure,,

Get somthing more reliable & newer for your money,, but if your heart is set on it then its set:dance:

just my two pence worth Jen x

Mothman,,,,,

Jen

If you get it I would move a lot closer to Vwalan as I think you will need to see a lot of him:).

They may well still make the steel Vdub panels but you try getting the rest of the bits.

ya know, that would look r8 nice dun up, i love it, is there summat wrong wi me?
Nah, sounds normal to me!! But then again my ideal van would be a 1950's Scammell Ballast Tractor & Showmans Living Van!!!

Oche, I thought you wiz serious, here me thinking you were interested in how the other half live, camp, wild camp, get skint knuckles, oily hands, sore back from lying under............no matter

i've done all that with mi boat and i dont really think my dog would get through the door lol

hi. there is nothing on it that cant be replaced or made . its far too expensive though. was ok for 3 grandish.
you may be amazed with alot of these vans . the living parts can just about always be fixed . my trailer is a 1987. all the panels are available . if you need them. i put a new complete roof panel on a couple of years ago. actually in 2005 a full roof panel cost 175.65 did buy aload of rivets at 40quid total 253 .39inc vat. . took a day to drill the old rivets and refit a new panel. years ago they made things easy to repair. that gurgens would be very simple construction. personally i prefer something like n early suntrecker demountable on a pick up. i ran one for awhile on a vwt25 single cab pickup . but nice one jen you know where i am if you ever did need advise etc. must say i love the old aircooled motors . we used to restore, sell parts . in fact the complete vw package . conversions .trikes . you name it we did it . still have loads bits . mainly for trikes . but should any of you get stuck for old bits get in touch , might know where to go. do have several t2 brake linings for t2,s . +rivets . i dont actually do vw,s now but still have contacts . prefer trucks now expedition ones . big boys toys . might grow up one day.

Jen have you still got ya boat????? ive got a boat too:boat::boat::boat::boat::boat:

Kimbowbill,,
(i've done all that with mi boat)

No, i sold it 4 yr ago and bought camper, i loved it, went everywhere, did all the locks on mi own aswell, it wo hard work at times, especially in winter when your hands are freezing and the locks where stiff, but i loved every minute, keep thinking of going back to it if they write my van off, dunno yet. I thought you sold yours? you like going out to sea tho dont ya?

Hi Jen that sounds like the idyllic life nice one,, yes we love the sea thats why ive now got another boat bit bigger this time & safer on the sea, roll on the good weather hey;)

Hope you get on ok with your Van Jen fingers crossed X

I all the years of working in the Motorhome industry, I really do find it amazing how common you see boat people go to vans and van people to boats.

Must be the feeling of freedom from both, only certain situations make you change. Boats are lovely, but without some serious planning, aren't you slightly restricted unlike a MH??

Plus the fact that you mention boat and BOOM, prices shoot skywards.

That is usually the case, i gave up boating because of the increase in moorings and BW fees, long que's at locks, the beauty of boating is, you can moor up anywhere, you dont get mr jobsworth knocking on ya bow at stupid o'clock asking you to move, you can also have a drink whilst you drive, its much quieter, more relaxing, yes you do have to plan more but thats the fun part, i went from nottingham to wales, and back, took me 5 week lol, toured the whole west north and east coast of scotland in that time, but two different experiences, lol, the only thing thats putting me off buying a boat now is my dog Henry, think he will sink the ship :scared::boat:
