More councils would do this if only the towns were as run down and broken as Fleetwood.

Dead fishing industry, sulphur poisoning from landfill sites and an ICI factory, short life expectancy and a high drug and alcohol dependency all lead to a need to pull people in.

To be fair if Fleetwood, as you describe it , can attract visitors then others could
 
Hopefully examples like this will serve to underline the possibilities offered by the introduction and proper control of motorhomes. Fleetwood is not alone, I can report that Fife even with all of the issues of to many using the facilities have benefited from us financially. So much so that they are continually looking for new locations for us to stay. I was recently chatting with a councillor from Leven who is extremely keen to greatly increase the 11 places they currently offer. His idea will involve a whole new facility inc chemical waste and fresh water, and it’s looking like it will take place. (y)

The motorhome park was full last night, with many others parked on the road. I wasn’t impressed by a 7m van parked along a row of disabled parking spaces even if he did have a badge. There’s always one to ruin it for everyone.
Great views across the bay at Fleetwood and some nice little cafes. A good museum and often good shows at the Marine Hall. As has been said very good transport links into Blackpool. Easy to knock towns that are trying hard.

Hawick has free 48 hour parking to encourage visitors. It’s a bonny little town with some lovely (often neglected) architecture, plenty of decent eateries, pubs and shops, including good traditional butchers, bakers etc.

Sure it has its economic and societal woes like many places these days, and is ever-so-slightly run down, but it’s really nice to be made to feel welcome in your camper/motorhome. It certainly seems to be working as there were a dozen or more of us parked up in the large Victoria Road car park by the river (next to a lovely park too) where I stayed overnight, and I think some other members on their way back from the Orkney meet stopped off there too?

I also spent quite a lot of money in the town while I was there - a lot more than I spent the entire week in Orkney as it happens.

Hopefully a lot more councils will start to cotton on and provide facilities, but I’m still not going to hold my breath on any sudden explosion in facilities or changes in entrenched, colloquial attitudes. 🤷‍♀️
