:D :D LEAVE IT AJ :D :D

OK, well I for one love using our MH as much as possible, even though the bed is so uncomfy. Has anyone any good ideas for getting the comfort without taking up loads of space???

What we have now is - we make the bed up every night from the seat cushions which are approx 6" thick - then a self inflating mattress on top of that, covered by one of those double layer wool mattress toppers and then sheets - sounds good dunnit but its uncomfy for me.

Any one else got any solutions to this problem - I guess it must be the same for a lot of other peeps :(

hi crissy. buy a memory foam matress topper best thing we ever did as polly she recomended us to get one.we £79 from chilton mills at cross gates leeds

They sometimes have these mattress toppers cheaper in Aldi, Lidl etc.
We use them in the MH, very comfy.

regards,
Bill.

Have you tried turning the seat cushions over so that you're sleeping on the flat backs of them rather than the bumpy tops??

You could also try putting the seat base cushions with the knee roll fronts at the top and bottom of the bed so that you have a flat central part, filled in with the seat back cushions.

We found on ours that the pull out centre slats were bending so I made four board sections from marine ply to fill in where the slats went and now the centre and ends are at the same level.

We now have a large comfy bed that does'nt give us backache in the mornings. :) :)

uncomfortable bed ? never !!

Hi We`re new to this site & think it`s great, already gained some useful information. Altho we`re `golden oldies` we decided to buy a motor caravan last year & we love it We have a 1994 Autohomes Highlander 2 about 6meters. We bought an `oldie` to `try` & see if we liked it.Have no intention of swapping it,as it suits us fine. The only real problem we had was the bed,but we`ve solved this.We made the single bench seat & the diner seats into one big bed,it`s now 6ft x7ft,we bought 2 single foam mattresses from Ikea £15 each to put on top of the cushions,we then throw a duvet in cover to lie on, this makes bedmaking easy as we have to make it up every night. We store the bedding in the space above the cab which was a bed we dismantled. Hope this helps. Looking forward to meeting some of you on our travels.

Sell the camper and get one with a fixed bed, 6" reflex foam on mine, sleep better in the van than I do at home:)

Our bed is quite comfy, but, we have a feather bed on our foamy bits. In winter it is so warm and comfy: in summer we still use it but don't really need much on top (if you know what I mean!)
Have a look on Northern Nights on QVC - it could cost about £80 but you can try it for 30 days and then send it back for only postage. Worth a try.

We have a memory foam mattress topper and it is brilliant! Alternatively, you could book into a hotel!

like the memory foam option but not the hotel

I thought our wool mattress topper would have been gud but not the case :(

Hello Chrissy!

- I have posted this cry for help on almost every forum. Just like you, I have a terrible time sleeping in the van. I have had the foam checked, and the upholsterer says it's integrity is fine.

- Have variously tried:

- Van seats topped with featherbed
- Blow up 3ft mattress with featherbed on top
- Transverse bed with 1 single Dunelm memory foam
- Ditto with single Raskelf memory foam
- Ditto with 1 Dunelm and 1 Raskelf on top of each other
- Long bed with the above side by side

- Result: - Still bl**dy purgatory!

The most comfortable was the blow up bed with featherbed but the side bench seats are not wide enough, so bed overhangs. Can just about walk up the side between seats though. Therefore able to leave made up in day.
Pump drains battery, so blow up before leaving and use lungs to 'top up'.

Storage of the memory foam is a bitch. I travel with them folded on the double seats and when stopped fold them in 2 lengthwise and use as thick seat toppers covered by throws.

I am not small - so I am looking at these other options:

- Chuck big money at newer foam upholstery (would welcome any info from other members as to whether better density makes a difference - bearing in mind it will be same thickness).
- Explore Gold level Raskelf, maybe at a show, as the middle price Raskelf (silver) folded in 2 doesn't feel too bad.
- If above OK will get 2 (not double) best Raskelfs. Storage? - who knows! Probably across 2 swivel front seats in the day, or on benches again.

I have a bad feeling it will be new upholstery AND the best Raskelfs. It might be 'Town Hall' steps to pay for it though!!!!!:D

Good luck!!! - Helena.

Thanks! - How does it 'self inflate'. I've looked at these before and often wondered.

Bit of a drastic measure that, £20k to £50k for a bed:rolleyes:
Just go for the Memory Foam, £20 to £50, will do the same thing:D

Happy Sleeping:)

Before you start buying weird and wonderful mattresses and bed toppers etc, make sure the bed base itself is solid and fully supportive. We found on ours, the pull out slats for the bed centre section were bending, so I made a solid base from four pieces of marine ply which fixed our problems.
