Hi All

Does anyone know how much it would cost for a full respray on my 1991 Hymer B694? Regards Patricia

depends on who you get, when we resprayed our 644 it was about £2/300 if memory serves me right.

Resprays can vary wildly in price depending on who you get to do it and your expectations of the job the 694 is a big bus and the dimple finish on the panels would be time consuming to prep by hand to get a good key it may be an idea to get a quote from someone who specialises in commercials as they would be used to the size and not quote silly prices . Good luck

I would expect to pay that just for the paint and activator, add a load more some mug to do it.

A friend has just had a Sierra Cosworth resprayed after a full restoration. He did all the major preparation and it was £2500.
The paint etc alone was the best part of £400.00.
The company specialise in classic car painting and are experts in that field so expensive but like most things you get what you pay for.

as a painter do not buy car type paints but use commercial two pack poly as i would use for spraying .£150 will get you top coat and if you do not want to do to much rubbing down just key the surface and use two pack etch which smells like cat piss and put on very light.
com two pack poly can be sprayed on at almost full strength without thining using a 2 /2.5 flued nozel on a cravity gun such as a binks 630 and any good painter should be able to layup to about 10 thu wet drying to 5 all in one pass.i would use jutan clark /spencer or sigma, you could use international yacht paint which gives a good finish but it runs easy and would be better doing two coats, any bus or coach sprayer will sort this for you.

We had our Pilote done professionally by a local lorry firm and a very good job they did too for £2000.

Bear in mind that the majority of vehicle painters will not have an oven big enough for a MH. Which of course rather limits the options.

Good luck

Yes we were very fortunate that my manager done the spraying and prep work for us all we had to do were pay for the materials.

Thank you sooooo much to everyone who replied to my thread.
I think I will have to make contact with the professionals after all. The links were interesting but being the size I am I have nowhere to park statically to take on the project.
Could I therefore ask pilotewanderers a few questions? how did you research a lorry company who was specialised in this field of work? How long did the work take? I'm thinking - travel out with my location on recommendations from our WC members, book into hotel etc
Alternatively, If any of our members who may live in Fife or Northumberland ( I have family in Northumberland) know of a contact within these areas it would be more convenient rather than travel and added expenses
I really appreciate everyone's input.
Regards
Patricia

Sure.

Where we store the van used to be a MH hire company and they used a very good guy who worked for Sherwoods (the lorry company) So we approached them and it was indeed Matt who did the work and very pleased with it we are too. Matt now runs his own business but his oven is only big enough for VW campers as he does a lot of work for a local VW restoration outfit. If you look here you will see some of thier and Matts work. Absolute VW though they seem to be waiting for a new site.

Sherwood does all sorts of lorry painting and one of their specialities is for show wagons, the sort that you walk into at displays. Just amazing artwork they can do, one of their works you might see on the roads is the waste lorry where it looks as if the cargo is loose and about to blow everywhere. :)

We went to see them, got a quote, looked at some of their work in progress and it was obvious they were meticulous and so....Commercial Vehicle Specialist Paint Work - By The Sherwood Repair Centre, working in the Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, East Midlands area. The acid test for us is a always would we use them again, emphatically a yes in this instance.

Hope this helps

Thank you Pilotewanderers. I have a guy coming today to assess the costing. I was thinking in the region of £2000. Here's hoping he around this figure. Many thanks once again for all your replies. Regards Patricia

Is that the cream coloured Pilote I used to see parked in Castle Donington?, if it is I remember seeing it before the respray and after so I agree they did a good job
