Hymer B544

I don't know....I don't pick it up until Friday....and can't remember from the short look that I had :)

When buyin some thing like that i would have been in overhauls in it under it through it with a second grease monkey with me just incase i missed something, and you will, good luck.

hymer

hi, one thing to check is that the cam belt and rollers have been done. don't take the dealers word for it. ask to see the invoice. and don't be fooled into all this 100,000 mile, ten year rubbish. Its know more then 4 years. My hymer was on a w plate. in the years I owned it, I only found the paint lifting on the outside locker doors, which was an easy fix. I got it serviced at my local garage and in the 5 years I owned it. it only needed a clutch replacing, front wheel bearings, cam belt x 2. exhaust and tires. and that was after covering 100,000 miles around Europe following my wife around as she worked in various European hospitals. the engine returned 25mpg no matter if towing or not ( at one time we towed a bike and then a smart car on trailers ) ended up selling on ebay to a chap on the isle of white. he was very happy with the van, and it looked as new as when we got it. michael

I could spend all day rummaging underneath and looking in the engine bay and it would do me no good I would be none the wiser. It's all metal ,pipes , hoses and plastic to me. I'm afraid I'm not mechanically minded at all. So in this case thank god for a warranty. But to be honest in 45 years of buying vehicles I have only ever bought one pup. Touch wood lol.

Even so there are simple things to look for,a clutch pedal should start to bit about a inch up,brakes should pull up strait and no play in steering ,easy to jack up and pull wheel top bottom for ball joint were and left right for track rods.
Look at oil cap to see if any white foam which indicates short jurneys or water ,if its thick with black gunk then the oils have not been changed ,oil should be almost clear not black.
ex pipes should be clean and no blowing also look at rubber mounts.
Always look for rust or badly fitting panels, could have been in a smash, other wise trust your hart not what a dealer tells you as they are the worlds biggest fibbers, its there job.
Best thing is to always take a grease monkey who knows the model, dealers go qt when you do this as they know there fibs will fall on deaf ears, good luck hope all is well.

I think you are wise to have asked the pertinent questions.

Now pick it up and enjoy it!

There may not many A class dogs but I walked away from a 2001 one we looked at which had a terribly rusty chassis. Certainly worth a look underneath with a good torch prior to purchase. I take your point about the A vs C class but prices for the A class are notably higher. I bet Hymer front screens cost an arm and leg as well! We debated the pros and cons between the two and as the C class Hymers are quite a bit cheaper we went for a newer (2005) C class rather than an older (2002) A class which was the same money. Furnishings are pretty similar and a tin of waxoyl sorts the cab out :)

Hi Tezza, we agree with Robmac, nice choice.

We bought our Lab from Webbs in Reading, nice people to deal with and they honoured their warranty upon our return to the UK, when our e-box failed in Spain.

Good luck

I hadn't thought about that. I'm going in Wednesday to solar solutions in wareham to get everything off the old van that I had fitted, then he can fit it all on the hymer. Solar panel, ctek , 2 new batteries and gaslow system so I can tell him to get that off too.

Yes Colin got it Friday. Going to go stay the night in it at Yeovil tomorrow night just to try everything out and have a play lol
