Hymer 544 Fuses "buzzing"

My 91 Fiat Ducato Hymer B544 has developed a buzzing behind the habitation fuse box down by the driver's legs (LHD). The buzzing is intermittent, but when it happens it follows the engine revs and the amp meter at the back of the van swings into the red zone.

I'm convinced there is a relay (or something) behind the fuse box but try as I might I can't get the fuse box out more than about an inch, therefore can't see what is behind it. Due to the location of the fuse box I can't see anything from the engine compartment either. I've had it to the garage twice but on each occasion it wouldn't perform the fault (typical!!)

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be and how it can be resolved?

Thanks, but it is definitely coming from the fuse box area. Tried it with the charger disconnected and it still does it.
I'm going to try removing the fuse box again. Someone has suggested reaching in under the bonnet with a camera and taking a snap before i pull too hard on the fuse box  Even if I can't reach it I'll know what's there.

The charger will only buzz when on EHU this is due to the laminations that make up the transformer core working loose, there are bolts that can be tighten up.
I think it could be a sticky relay or worse still an arcing contact, but this is sometimes accompanied by an ozone type smell.

Thanks - Not speaker related, I disconnected them years ago and fitted new ones on the dashboard. Needed something a bit more powerful to combat the engine noise:lol-053:

Auto electrician time me thinks!!

Could it be water ingress into the fuse box? I had similar symptoms on a Land Rover, WD40 cured it.

I've replaced all the fuses, cleaned and tightened all connections and WD40'd it. Can be a tad frustrating at times this motorhoming lark :wacko:

Electrical Problems

Hi. From the description of the fault I would go for a cable short to the van body ( negative chassis ). There should be no connection with your meter going into the Red in the rear of the van other than possibly the split charge link it may be this wire from the fusebox has an insulation split where it's rubbed against the side of a hole or a bracket and is shorting out every now and then if you say this follows engine revs then it follows higher alternator output as well.
If possible could you locate the fuse for the link to your split charge or to the leisure battery control and disconnect for testing purposes.
In any case treat as urgent and possibly dangerous as this could lead to a battery dead short.
