hymer 534 headlight bulb replacement

Hello,
My headlight bulb on my hymer 534 has gone, i am going to replace them for brighter ones as when it did work it was difficult to see the road on motorways that are not lit.
Is there an easy way to get to it, it seems to be tucked so far back into the corner of the engine compartment that its almost impossible to get to without removing other components.
 
Mines are easy to do but a few weeks back someone had a mare of a job to replace one but another member found a easier way,they will answer your question soon I would think.
 
Be careful if you are fitting 100 watt headlight bulbs as i believe some people are having problems with them overloading the existing wiring.

In the search bar top right type in,,,,,,,changing Hymer headlamp bulb"..theirs a couple you could ask advice

Also, a higher wattage bulb might cause the reflector & Bulb housing to melt if it's plastic!

If you are replacing bulbs with the 100w or the 130w super white high pressure zenon and are not sure if the wiring can take the load you can use a relay switched from the existing lamp wires,all you require is a fused wire from relays back to battery,simple to do about a 1 hr job.
 
well ive attempted to remove the bulb from my hymer 534 and ive managed to twist the cap cover off and expose the bulb but not managed to free the bulb as yet. It looks like the bulb is attached to a white wire. Im not sure yet if this pulls off or the bulb is supplied with a wire attached.
I am having to work blind as my arm just fits into the area. When the bulb is finally removed i dont have a clue how im going to fit it back in as i cant see a thing.
Ive managed to get a couple of pics, can anyone id the bulb.

It looks like a H1, the wire should pull off because the bulb has a spade connector

If the wire is attached then it would be a H3 but that is shorter than the bulb in your picture so I still think H1

Not easy.

And one of the problems is you must not touch the glass of the new bulb with your fingers, ruins the bulb.

Correct but if you do wash it right away with meths,its a h/one with push on spade.
 
Yes it is a H1, i now have it exposed but am finding it difficult to pull the spade clip off the bulb with one hand as i cant get two into the compartment.

Use a small pair of needle nose pliers & wd 40 as they corrode on with age & heat,be careful.
 
I can only use one hand to release the bulb from the spade clip, as its quite tight i am struggling.
 
FWIW, when I change bulbs, I ALWAYS wear nitrile gloves to avoid getting "finger grease" on the glass. So many bulbs are so awkward to fit nowdays, at least it is one less thing to worry about when performing automotive gynocology!

I wear the same gloves to keep my fingernails clean:lol-053:, good tip though but if I have changed them without gloves which is rare I always hold them in a paper towel or similar
