How to travel with a dog?

We have Masterbrain in his harness and that is attached to the spare seat safety belts. I don't fancy the idea of him flying forward in the event of a crash. Like some-one mentioned: Remember the TV ad of the Mum killed by the back seat passenger.

He is still able to sit up on one of the side seats and hurl abuse at every passing dog, cat, car, pedestrian yadda yadda yadda :D

Mine curls up on the bed and goes to sleep, never been a problem but I have designed the van so that there is no clear run through from the beds to the cab. Plus once the engine is running there is no way he would come anywhere near the front. Like Baloo mine is also happy chatting to the vehicles that come too close.

Chatting? Why is it that all the breeds from Oz and NZ like Blueys, Kelpies and Huntaways like to hurl abuse at everything that passes whether it be animal, vegtable or mineral? The B******ds seem to want to take on the world sometimes :)

I use a wheelchair harness (the type fitted in a disabled vehicle) that bolts through the floor and and the mechanism detaches when not in use leaving the floor flat again. It works exactly like an inertia seatbelt and holds the dog if you have to brake suddenly. You could probably bolt it to anything secure in the van if its only to hold a dog. I attach it to a proper dog car seat harness for use with inertia seatbelts and he can stay in the rear and on the floor, it allows him to sit, lay down or move around a little bit. Theres no way he can get into the cab area.
