I got my JRT Tilly when she was a year old. She came with a pink hoodie. - A pink hoodie for a Jack Russell:scared:

I was asked by more than one person to breed her but I had her spayed. There are too many dogs out there who need homes to justify bringing any more into the world, no matter how much you can sell them for.

I agree a dog is not a commodity and should not be used in that manner.

Dougal is our Jack Russel/Corgi mix.....fantastic little fella that we got from a rescue centre. Totally wrapped us both around his paws and everything we do seems to revolve around him....but that's just how we like it as he gives us so much fun, best £100 ever!

It's my brother's boat and he had left his toothbrush on a ledge directly below the window. Tilly had just finished licking it when I took this photo. I didn't tell him for months.
 
I wonder also if the charge is made to see if you have the means to look after the dog, after all if you are giving the dogs away , can the recipients meet the bills for vets / insurance / food etc otherwise you are just going to see the dog back again.

I used to have a rough collie cocker spaniel cross called jake. He was called a mongrel and he was great , intelligent (collie) with no common sense (spaniel)

I do voluntary dog walking at my local dog pound. It takes in strays and dogs that the owner no longer wants for whatever reason...the latest excuse is 'my child has become allergic'!! It used to have a really bad reputation for putting dogs to sleep after 7 days but this no longer happens. We do our best to get them rehomed or in to rescue and our longest resident so far is 6 months. It costs £30 to adopt no home checks are done and the dog is taken as seen but can be brought back if it turns out not to work, and they are given a neutering voucher. The kennel maids are very cautious about who takes a dog. A rescue is a different type of kennels in that they have dogs neutered, vaccinated and vet checked, assess their behaviour and temperament and vet and homecheck potential owners, hence they charge more to cover their costs.
Sadly the breed most discarded are staffys, not the prettiest dog but the most loving..they're not called Nanny dogs for nothing.

So if you're in the market for a doglet ' Adopt, don't shop' and give an unwanted dog a second chance.

My wife used to show Great Danes and at one time had 7. Later we had a Volkswagen T3.
See the mass (and mess) 7 Danes make. That's why a small dog:)

We are off on Friday with our new puppy. Hope she likes the experience!

She's in the kittens's bed in the photo. The kitten will get peace for the next three weeks!

Maybe bad taste, but maybe true.

We have a lot of dealings with pet owners, although mostly on the cat front.
It is surprising how many moan about being charged to give a home to a fully neutered, vaccinated, blood tested & health-checked animal. Rescue centres are not cheap to run either. If someone moans to me about the cost, I usually tell them that perhaps they should consider all the possible future costs & vet bills before they get a pet, as if it bothers them they are probably making a mistake.

But we don't have any Korean restaurants in Hereford, yet.........
