How longs a piece of string? I see in our local paper some charge £100's yet rescue dogs are given to good homes

Actually, Witzend most rescue places don't give them free. I was looking at one on Dogsblog and I would have had to pay £170. I think it's to put people off taking them for the wrong reasons as well as contributing to the upkeep of the organisation.:dog:

Visited my local dogs trust recently, £82.00 charge to cover nuetering etc.
Unfortunately the Patterdale terrier i was interested in was as mad as a hatter !!!.

Regarding cost of dogs, the latest fashion accessory is mongrels. Chihuahua's crossed with Jack Russels, going for £300 -£500 in my area. I think they are called Jackawowa's ???

The worlds gone mad.

I ended up paying £850.00 for an English Bullterrier, my daughter thinks i'm mad lol.

Our friends bitch Jack Russell had six pups recently, they were snapped up at £250 each, beautiful pups, but by the time our friend paid vet bills and the cost of puppy food etc and then had the bitch spayed she made very little money but loved the experience.

Here's my doggy in the window taken 8 years ago, she's now nearly 13.

she"s nearly the double of our jack. sadly she died a few years ago. we got her from a rescue centre so don"t how old she was, at a guess about sixteen.

Regarding my bull terrier pup, bitch had 5 in total. £850.00 x 5 = £4250.00.

Sounds great but take off the following and it is a poor return for all the hard work, stress etc.

Stud fee, having the bitch scanned to confirm pregnancy, hearing and hip tests, innoculations, worming, vet visits for general health checks, food, etc etc etc.

I for one couldn't wouldn't go through it not worth the stress and trauma.

Well thanks for the correction Carol I guessed that as our local rescue centre does they all did,They accept donations but no charge my friend had one dog biggest roughest black dog you could ever see given to him

I have a Jackauwa paid £400 for him (the black one above named Derby ) he's fabulous dog we lost our Doberman to cancer and Bill my other half bought him for me as our Staffie was missing her pal she is a rescue dog (the white one above called Poppy) and needs the company of another dog, and a dog is worth whatever you are willing to pay for them. £850 for E.B Terrier bargain he will pay you back 10 fold during his lifetime with love and devotion:dog::dog:

Its 20 years since ive had a pup, last 2 dogs were shooting labs both 8 month old when i got them so more or less through the destructive period.
Ive had the bullterrier since last Saturday, arms and hands like pin cushions, 2 door mats destroyed, landscaped garden starting to look like a building site lol.

Im sure it will be worth it. Lost my last lab last August and wife last September. Decided i needed dog for companionship and to stop me moping around the house.

Cannot wait to get away in the motorhome with her once im sure she will not chew it to pieces !!!!!

Many years ago I was given a poodle pup, whats the catch you ask, well its dad was a boxer! the lady who gave it me was beside herself and was almost crying that her poor little poodle had been ravished by the brute of a boxer that lived a couple of doors away ,we called it a' poobox' ,these days of designer dogs it would have cost as much as a pedigree as per labradoodle, and pugs are being crossed with all sorts, hence I now have a Pugairn again for nowt due to the randiest Pug on gods earth (it would hump a frog if it could stop it hopping) finding itself a brief window of opportunity with an unsuspecting Cairn Terrier

Our Shipoo pup
Shi tzu cross poodle
Another expensive mongrel
Worth every penny

We found a Border Collie running wild 15yrs ago, (well to be honest she found me), no collar so handed her in but checked every day to see if she had been claimed, after 7 days we were told she would be destroyed that afternoon so we went back to get her, we had to pay £35 and in those days you just signed to say you would have the dog neutered/spayed, we still have her and she was worth every penny

Pepper was also rescued, 8yrs later but the same price and again we just signed to say we would have him 'seen to' but this time received a voucher for half of the cost, seems strange they are wanting so much money these daysView attachment 20309

Sadly I lost Harry (my avatar) on Christmas Eve and so miss all the loyalty and joy he not only gave me but all who met him as was a real bundle of fun. It is a great testament to our furry friends that we miss them so much. I miss the greetings, the warmth they give and the walks. I am now waiting to pick up my new puppy in 3 weeks and hoping he will be another great character in his own right

We paid £1200 for our Pug bitch but she came from a top kennel. She had a short but successful career in the Show Ring before we decided to stop showing. We let her have a litter which produced only one dog pup. We advertised him for sale (because we wanted to keep a bitch pup). Everyone who rang up was working and we were not prepared to let him go to a home where he would be in the house alone all day (Pugs like company and hate being alone), so we kept him. At the time we had 4 Whippets and his Mother, so one more is hardly noticeable.
