For the past nine years, apart from spending every other winter flying off in search of distant sun (backpacking and using hostels) we have spent virtually all of our time in the Motorhome - even when visiting friends and family. In the year to now it comes to over 360 days (we have to get the thing serviced and MOT'd !). In the summer we tend to be in the UK; in the winters when we aren't backpacking we tend to end up in the van in southern Spain (or Morocco or Sicily or Greece). When we started, our friends told us we'd kill each other in what they regarded as such a confined space but so far we have both emerged unscathed - and our "home" extends far beyond the boundaries of the van (except in long spells of bad weather, which we try to escape). In what other life could you have a different garden all the time and yet never have to tend it?

John What do you think is the secret to surviving with a partner in such a small space ? My partner and I are seriously thinking of going off-grid and exploring the coast of Britain initially.
Its my only concern about the prospect really.

If you want a full break down Phil
2006 = 21, 2007 = 35, 2008 = 42, 2009 = 42, 2010 = 49 2011 so far 29!

Hi

Jenny and I have a lot of similar interests - most of which involve getting out into the wide blue yonder and experiencing new things. However, there are some interests we don't share so its important that you have enough space for two people to do their own thing if you are trapped inside due to bad weather. Our van is 7 metres long, with a fixed bed, seperate dining area and seperate lounging area, so we can survive without annoying each other (and the advantage of a fixed bed is that one of us can go to bed and read or listen to the radio while the other (Jenny) is being creative all over the dining area! But most of the time we are following the sun so we spend most of each day outside (Jenny is somewher out there as I write this). Its a great life - I hope you enjoy it.

Not enough

Dunno if it will ever be 24/7 but right now due to my shift pattern its every weekend either friday, saturday or if im lucky both!
Did my first 9 day stint with the girlfriend and once id got her into the camping routine (shes no camped before) it was great, she just needs to realise everything has its place and its a tad irritating if that place moves constantly

In between Grand Prix's as much as possible although last weekend was a bonus, 4 nights at silverstone, it wasn't wild camping but the camping was fairly wild. Only had the van a few months (our first) and notching them up, loving it, where has it been all our lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!:wave:

I stopped working back in October last year due to health reasons, I'm 65 in june 2012. My wife is working part time to top up the income until i get my pensions.
She was working Tue & Thu each week but from Aug is going to do Mon & Tue with a pay rise. So now we can get away 4 days on the trot, nice one :)

just done 100 nights on a return trip to Norway.164 previous to that on return trip to Portugal via Germany.:have fun::fun:

Since we got the van in March I'd say around 100, mainly because whenever we visit friends/family its easier for us and them if we sleep in our van - this is especially handy when someone has loud children and we can escape the noise!. Our aim is to go away every summer to Europe and do a bit of backpacking/couchsurfing in the winter. I also seem to find I sleep better in the van, when it had to go in to the garage for some work I missed the bed the most!
