How do members deep clean "grey water waste" holding tank to eliminate smell

Always worth an airing of this one. :D I bet it was the first and last time she did that job. Reminds me of when I first bought our van in 2008 and first emptied the Thetford. The people we bought it off had forgotten to empty it. God knows how long it had been in there. I can still smell it. :poop:

I noticed my gray tank was draining very slowly ,hopefully I will solve the problem by sticking a hose pipe up the drain tap
And and give the tank a back flush . I did the coke trick when the level gauge stopped working and it worked.

I bet its the pipe thats blocked. I keep an old coat hanger in the garage in case it gets bunged up which it never does these days because of the afore mentioned way I use the Grey tank. Just get a coat hanger and give yer pipe a good ole poke!! :D

We, too, use coke regularly, and I also put 2 Milton tablets (well, the cheap equivalent!) down the sink if away for any length of time. Our issue is we seem to have a very slow emptying tank, so may try @molly 2 s remedy! Or the coat hanger, but as others, don't put food bits down the sink. Only thing draining into grey waste as no shower. And as for the loo...composting loo saves all the potential nasty pongs even bubblegum ones!

Caustic Soda, some might think that a bit aggressive, but works for us.
GF lived in the van for 6 months, she used the open valve and bucket method, that also seemed to work.

Be careful what goes down the sink.
If it does start smelling, close the tank, put some jeyes fluid in with some water, leave a few days before washing out

I’ve always thought that leaving the drain partially open causes the smell because if there is any fat grease or food partials in your tank then they get caught up in the drain pipe solidify then set your better to either keep it closed until you empty over a drain or if parked on grass put a bucket with holes in the bottom a j cloth or similar in the bottom open tap fully so food and grease are flushed out the food and fat are caught in the j cloth and the water filters away a lot of on grass campsite are now requesting this method during the dry spell.
and yes I am in the £$%^ in a bag camp never in my toilet the thought of emptying regergitated £$%^ just turns my stomach.🤢🤮
Lol god bless Annie made me chuckle

Thats why I started using the Green stuff last summer as we were heading up to the Scottish isles and I know a lot of emptying points or toilets are on sceptic tanks and this stuff is supposed to be ok with that. Anyway it was brilliant and really does smell like bubble gum. It breaks it all down really well and no nasty niffs when you empty, just bubblegum. :D Just bought another 2.5 litres of it for the next leg of the trip which will probably last the rest of the summer. £8.99.
So what is the name of the bubble gum scented liquid? Just to save us all smelling all the fluids in the store.🤭

What is the make of the £8.99 green stuff. Used the Aldi green which seems ok but reading the ingredients it looks the same as the blue though none of the dreaded formaldehyde.

Every now & then I half fill the waste tank with warm water, pour half bottle of bleach down the sink & leave overnight.
Next day drive lively over the local speed bumps and immediately empty down a drain.
It’s amazing how much shite accumulates in there.

The best method is to not put anything in it that might get stuck on it's way out via cheaply made convoluted piping.

How do members deep clean "grey water waste" holding tank to eliminate smell coming back into motorhome?
Hi, bit late but my b.half recommends putting this product down your sinks it is a Fiamma product ( so prob costs) but as it filters down into the tank it keeps whole system smelling good..see photo it is called Rinse. It is supposed to be for those vans which put it in their toilet flush.
