is there anyway of putting degrees into Google maps. How can I put a degrees sign in the search on iPad? What is so annoying is that when you put decimal format in the b degrees show up on the bottom. Is there a way of changing as there is on sat navs? I thought I would just be able to put some of the places from All the Aires book on to Google - need the degrees symbol.
I've found one conversion site, but it doesn't seem to want to convert All The Aires ones.

If you just want to type the degree symbol - Hold down 'ALT' and type 0176

I use Google Maps all the time to enter latitude and longitude in various formats.

It's intelligent enough to recognise formats with the symbols missing.

Just replace the symbols (degrees, minutes, seconds) with a space and it will work.

There is one important exception. If the longitude is west of Greenwich, the W must be replaced with the minus character. So W2 becomes -2. E2 can be typed as 2. A positive value is assumed.

Taking David's example this can be entered as:

48 05 21.8,-3 04 42.4

Does this work for anyone - I'm just getting middle of a field. N44 18 38 W1 5 28 - typed in as 44 18 38 -1 5 28 - supposed to be a place called Sanguinet with 15 gravel pitches. Free in winter but water turned off. On A660towards Arcachon exit junction 1 to D126. Got it from an article i MCC magazine. Tried all ways to find it on map, to no avail.

I suspect that's supposed to be N44° 18.38' W1° 5.28'

If so type it as 44 18.38 -1 5.28

After a bit of copying and pasting to get the degree sign I finally managed to copy the format from All the Aires book N44° 29.037' W1° 05.495'. Looking at the way they format - how do I put that on google maps.

As per my instructions ...

44 29.037 -1 05.495

As Chris said google maps is intelligent to recognise different formats without the degree sign, just let google maps do the work and don't over complicate it.I have copied and pasted the above coordinates into google maps and get a lovely looking aire next to a lake,it looks like it's at the side of a commercial site as many are........Google Maps

Can someone work out where this should be from same article in MMC mag. Soligny la Trappe N48 37 0 E0 32 38 flat gravel 10 vans. Free. Tokens for electric and water. Six miles north of Mortagne au Perche. I can find village but when I tried co-ordinates they don't work. I Tried 48.370 0.3238 is it me being dumb again😳

We'll that's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Tell me how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit ... it is not necessary to ... no need to convert. Well it bloody well is if somebody wants to. Fairly obvious what the OP wanted and thankfully got helpful replies.

Having a bad month.

Mul.

Well I think you're doing brilliantly just knowing what you're trying to do! You're obviously in France!

For what it's worth, I use Google Earth (as opposed to Google Maps) and I add my own Places of Interest in pins of different colours so that they stand out. It comes in handy for LPG Service Stations as I can ensure I can get in and out again with a big motorhome and ignore the ones where I cannot. I also browse areas of intended travel and look for possible overnighters that are not in the WC POIs. Unfortunately we never stick to the plan and most of these are still to be checked out. :(

Hi Carol. Not in France yet. Collect new van on 11 th. Having a week or 2 in uk to check everything working ok, then will be heading south. I saw you'd booked ferry. I tried ringing you - I bet I've got the wrong number again!

I did think about that after I had spent hours putting in a lot of Camperstop s (and then found there was a b App for Camperstop costing all of a fiver, which you can use offline duh). Our sat nav packed up and there is one in MH we are getting. Don't know what it is yet so I thought I'll hedge my bets and load up my phone.

Cheers for that Wakk44 - could be a useful one with supermarket next door .... unless the supermarket was built on it ! I'm sure I only got it out of one of last years mags when I decided to just rip out what could be useful and binned the rest.
