How come we cannot build a decent Motorhome in the Uk ...

Some people want all the facilities they have at home such as TV, Microwave,Oven etc. and they call it camping. A colleague of mine judged a campsite by how good the TV reception was!
Continentals require someway to brew coffee and cook eggs the rest of the day they eat out.

We looked at new MHs at the NEC recently.
Got fed up of saying "But we don't want a microwave,TV aerial, satellite, 240V sockets, electric ring on hob, TV, cream upholstery :scared: etc. etc
I love all the bells & whistles on my car but I wouldn't want a hair dryer in it!
What we do want is a bed Phill can fit in, a separate shower he can stand up in, solar panel, 12V sockets, practical upholstery & quality cab seating.

We quite liked the look of the Benimars through..............

I have all of the above except the shower and i built it my way so no camp sites required,i do understand 99% of folk could or never will do this sort of self build thing or any other diy in there lives including painting there own house, but then there would be no jobs/industry if we all were good handymen, thank goodness as i have made a lot of dosh fixing things for others.

My Autosleeper is 10 years old nothing has fallen off and the habitation side is still very presentable and we are in it for about 20 weeks of the year so it gets used.

The Peugeot side of it however........not so good!

going back a few years benimar did guided tours of their factory . it was very interesting and yes nice workmanship.
seems they have stopped the tours shame as it was good .
there was a converter in brittany as well ,star or something they did tours round theirs as well. not sure if they are still going though.

There does seem to be a lot transferring to m,homes as they get older . could be the end of it all soon.

Would not worry to much they use them just like a caravan only difference being they tow the car instead. Some of these MH's do a couple of outings a year and not that many miles. On the odd occasion we have used a M&CC site we have been amazed at the amount of stuff some of these new MH's have with them.

Ours is on a boxer chassis...only issues because previous owners left it standing too long. (discs, brake cylinder repair) What is not so good about yours ? Also 10 year old...36k Maja

Wingamm show the quality that manufacturers can achieve, but to the mass market buying for example Hymers they are too expensive. Certainly quality is available for those prepared to pay, both in the UK with IH and overseas with Wingamm.

trouble now though is they do get away for winter. they dont realize how cold it can be inland ,and are amazed how few campsites there are open . its them that cause most of the trouble abroad . be them uk or german dutch etc . mind i think even the french are better as neighbours then germans and dutch . they really are getting the bad ones .
there does seem to be the retired ones now dont give a monkeys .
they have no idea about digging a trench etc for waste .
i,m sure the ones now starting to get away have no idea of survival . they have been institutionalized and have never really managed to think. just follow what they have been told . lack of imagination and adventure .

Motor Homes

Hi, for what it is worth, we built our own campervans for £15years. We have now had one English and three German Motor Homes. Our latest one is a Burstner, no , it is not perfect in every way but it does what it says on the tin. It is a 2004 model and I don't think we will be getting rid of it. I hate to say this but I think it is true the older german models are superb. Unfortunatley, English can not come up to scratch. This is my opinion for what it is worth.
