Hosepipe ban ..

We have already had the tap water going off in our area.

Oh, that's bad, harrow :( We should never run out of water in the UK, it just doesn't make sense.

When was the last time we had a serious water shortage in the UK? I'll have to Google... Didn't they use standpipes and people had to go and queue to fill up their containers?

Just like an aire or a campsite, really, so should be no hardship for us WC-ers if it comes to it :)

well decorate the hose to look like a snake then blame it on the heatwave for snakes getting bigger and taking a leak as a way of keeping cool as the hosepipe snake cant sweat so it has to recycle water to keep cool

On the tv they are saying the water companies can't produce enough drinking water to keep up with demand.

Here's a snippet about drought from Wiki. I was right about standpipes.

The full page is interesting and talks about the last really big UK drought which was the summer if 1976. Worth a read.
Drought in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia

The responses to drought in the United Kingdom are managed by the Environment Agency. There are 4 stages to drought management, applying to both businesses and homes.
The first of these is a media campaign, urging people to save water and prevent specific measures to be taken. For example, use a water butt to collect any rainfall.
If drought continues, and water levels continue to decrease, further measures are brought in to save water. The first stage of this is a hosepipe ban, which prevents the use of hosepipes, and can be applied to hot tubs, pressure washers and other similar devices in a future drought. These measures were brought in, particularly the ban on hosepipes, in 2006 and 1976.
The second stage involves conserving any non-essential supplies of water. These are brought in when no foreseeable precipitation is forecast and water supplies are already very low. The management options including simply widening the hosepipe bans, to include sprinklers or drastic measures such as banning cleaning of buildings, vehicles and windows or the filling of swimming pools. These measures were also brought in during the 1976 drought.
The third and final stage involves drastic measures of water rationing to all businesses and homes in the United Kingdom in an emergency drought order. The measures are brought in only in exceptional conditions of extended periods with little or no rainfall. These actions include rationing of water, with no water supplies for certain times of the day, or allowing water for a specific amount of time. Also standpipes and water tankers can be used as a last resort to have only set amounts of water given to each household in a neighbourhood. Again, these measures were used during the 1976 drought.[SUP][10][/SUP][SUP][11][/SUP]
Also, each area in the United Kingdom has its own drought plan, in the event of any future drought.[SUP][12]

are the water authorities providing you with ottled water or stnd pipes.....or is water turned off for a few hours a day.......make sure you are stocked up harrow.... if it is for a few hours a day......cannot imagine they will save much...as everyone will be rushing to get washing machines, dishwashers, bath, showers , fill containers and whateverelse during the time water is on, instead of spreading it throughout the day,,,

Local tv were reporting from a reservoir the other day and it looked fine. They did show some pics from 76, and it looked as though it had been drained. The water rep seemed quite confident that we wouldn't see that this time.

No the water has just been stopping, the water companies say it is the demand for water rather than the amount of water running out.

On the news people are watering grass with sprinklers which are powered with clean tap water drinking water sometimes these sprinklers are running all night.

Drinking water should not be used to water the grass.

Abso-blinkin'-lutely! Agree with you 100% on that one, harrow.

Golf courses are probably the biggest offenders I would think, but there's millions of folks who also like to have nice green lawns.

Never seen the point of lawns personally.
To me it's just waste ground where you could be growing something more interesting or useful :)

I have filled a bottle of water and put that next to the kettle in case I want a cup of tea.

A spokesman from North West water this morning on TV stated reservoir levels were not the issue but the pipes are simply not robust enough to cope with demand which is exceptionally high

channa

Hey! Now you behave you. I'll have you know they were grown by the Victorians as ornamental plants!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :lol-061::)

Scotland has loads, sell you some:cool:

That might be the last of the tap water you see, down here things are drying up,

our water company says they are proud supporters of water aid,

but they can't keep our own water taps running.

Once you get nearer your be trapped on the M25 the road to hell

Have a nice holiday, don't drink too much. !

Commercial carwashes use recycled water passed thru a filtration system

Most of the car washes now are hand cleaned using Karcher type ..they have sprung up in virtually every town .. often causing rival gang fighting for trade..our dependence on water should come before these..
The Sunday morning washing the car tradition seems to have fallen by the waysides to the £5.00 a wash brigade...
