Hi, does anyone know anywhere we could wildcamp overnight in or near Holmfirth on a Saturday night? Not really anything close by on the POIs , many thanks :)

Hi, well we are going to a gig at the Picture Drone in the centre, so ideally within walking/ staggreing distance, but otherwise a taxi ride home would be fine :)

IF you need to be "Central" there is a spot of ground near to Holmfirth fresh fish (close to main road and not very scenic)
Further out car park at top of Holme moss ...possible company from the odd ned in a corsa etc BUT cracking views

Several reservoirs at bottom of Holme moss that might be possible BUT you probably end up with company for some of the evening (Joys of popular locations near to "civilisation" I'm afraid )

Thanks MrIceman. they all sound good, don't mind if there's some company as will be out all evening, though the car park with the view sounds good, always nice to have a view isn't it? Its always nicer to be some where remote and alone, but if you are in a car park you can hardly complain when the dog walkers turn up in the morning! Many thanks for your suggestions :)

Auntie Wainwright ! ,,,,don't look in her eyes you will buy. I live 13 miles from Holmfirth cp near the police station Holme moss further away as mentioned, Blackmoofoot Reservoir a few wild spots, Wills o nats a pub close by that takes campers, I know Bob and Joyce so sure it could be arranged, If you need anymore info give me a shout

You could stay in the carpark at the back of the coop then there is a path from the carpark to the picture drome, or there is castle hill about 10 minute drive away or you could park outside our house again 10mins away, iwould let you in our field but the ground is a bit soft now.

If you can make a trip of it , Holmfirth is stunning and the area surrounding we even have a vineyard just don't expect chateuu neuf de pape ..Huddersfield side a few areas to hole up ...crossland moor etc,,I mentioned Blackfoot,,This part of Yorkshire is pretty and stunning but doesn't get the publicity of the dales etc...it is a bit of a hidden jewel ... Marsden , Slaithwaite etc lovely little villages. I sometimes reflect and realise how lucky I am all this on my doorstep. Ok we don't get the weather in fact can be a cruel mistress...but beautiful all the same.Compos café in Holmfirth Fish and chips cup of tea bracing winds , tests the feathers on yer chest as my dad says,A walk down the river you can imagine ( or I can ) fairies at night casting their spells . The Fairy court a serious matter I suggest with the babble of water in the background

Enjoy were we make home

Funnily enough we were at Dovestones a couple of weekends ago and drove around towards Holmfirth to a bacon butty van and we were saying we need to come back and explore out that way more it looked lovely. We will def have a look around on the Sunday, surprised to hear there is a vineyard - you must get better weather than we do in this part of West Yorkshire (near Todmorden!) Thanks for all your suggestions Channa :)

Bring on the fairies!! Or the wine anyway!! :)

Superb actress of the old school Coronation Street as Hilda best known for , When Stan died she gave a master lesson one talented lady, Last of the Summer Wine was written by Roy Clarke an ex copper who live in Sykehouse near Doncaster.

One of my mentors in the early days of catering was a chap called Mike Poynor larger than life itself sadly no longer with us. Mike wrote a book and Roy Clarke assisted I don't know if it ever made publishing but Mikes stories were hilarious that you cried with laughing and it hurt..dapper character neckchief cigarettes in a a silver cigarette box and used a holder. He catered often at Bramham Horse trials and served the Queen etc.

As a footnote the only man I have ever known that started with nothing and became a millionaire lost is all at his lowest ebb kipping in the back of a transit with a bottle as company...then made himself a millionaire again ..final twist he shot himself...

Sad story but I learnt hell of a lot from him, Partly when I cook and am serious some of it is for Mike.. in my mind no doubt influenced my attitude.

Blimey what a story Channa!! Well painted, characters like that stay with you don't they. Sad end though after all that, especially for someone who could make others laugh like that:(

Do you think it would be Ok in the Co-op Helen? It sounds dead convenient, but you would get a ticket in our local co-op they have cameras in and out and if you stay more than 2 hours ticket comes through post!!

Those days. Mike Poynor , I worked for a chap called Dario Bellandini oodles of experience in his own right could tell the tale ..on reflection you couldn't bottle it they entered a room anything could happen , both men incredibly funny...I reflect and now realise just how lucky I was ..Both could charm birds from the trees , a privilidge to be part of the journey .....most jobs you can tell a funny tale or two ...I have one from my time with Mike I might share I know for a fact he shared with Roy Clarke for is book but I fear not published I hope I can do justice, one of those moments at the time what the flippin eck afterwards funny...all I will say is it is true don't work with animals chaos didn't enter the
equation ...

PS I once took a gaggle of miscreant youths to a place near Todmorden I can t remember the name but was an old mill with a pond another tale another area of Yorks neglected
