Hi Polly,
No need for a continental kit; some say otherwhise but this not the 3rd world,.. yet . In the Netherlands there is ANWB who cares after all troubles, in Belgium: Touring and VAB. Free and they cooperate with AA. No need of a bike-plate too (only in Italy and Spain).
Where are going to in the Netherlands ? Wilding, or in campings ? If you need some advise send me a PM.
And for 'dancing on ice', it doesn't freeze anymore overhere:cool::D:D
Enjoy your trip, en welkom in de Lage Landen

Click below for information on:

New French driving laws French driving laws have changed. From 1 October 2008, all vehicles driven in France, including vehicles registered outside of France, MUST have one Hi-Viz reflective jacket and one warning triangle in their vehicle. The reflective jacket has to conform to EU standard and must be inside the car – not in the boot. On the spot fines varying between €90 and €135 will apply.

Be prepared for driving abroad. Call into the AA travelshop in our Folkestone Passenger Terminal building.

you will need beam benders and spare bulbs are available from any mototing shop all you need is a set of replacements for your vehicle but some countrys require a high vis vest for all passengers we have found ours on the side of the road many road workers loose or disgard them (un road kill )

Watch where you park in Ghent polly as i parked in a parking layby close to the centre and as i was getting out of the cab a tram started to blow his horn as he couldn't pass(or if he could he would have took my side out.)After i thought it was a good job the tram came when it did other wise i could have gone off and found the van had been hoisted when i got back.

Hi Polly,
Then you'll be confined in a camping at Delft : mini Camping ”De Uylenburg” Noordeindseweg 70, 18€/n , N 52° 1' 8.47", E 4° 23' 23.24". Delft is a good starting point to see something in Zuid (south) Holland. The tulip fields at 'Keukenhof' are nice (but a little late in the growing season). Leiden, Haarlem and Amsterdam are not too far off to visit for a day trip.
In Ghent (and then you are in (my) Flanders.. watch the tram !) there is a good camping at: “Blaarmeersen” Zuiderlaan 12, ( near 'Watersportbaan', not too far from the centre) 17,5€/n, 1/3>31/10. There are MH-parkings too in and around Gent (see 'Belgium, Oost Vlaanderen' on this site). You may use Ghent as a centre and have daytrips to Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels ...
Welkom in de Lage Landen :D

the law

Legal Requirements in the EU

In EU you are required to carry proof of ownership or the owner's permission to use the vehicle and evidence that the vehicle complies with your home country's laws.

You are also required to carry evidence of adequate vehicle insurance (green card)

Your lights must not dazzle other road users; the solution being the use of 'beam benders' or masks on the headlights.

All countries now require that a person who has to exit their vehicle on a motorway must wear a fluorescent jacket/vest. (with a CE 471 mark)

Carrying a warning triangle (with a CE mark) that must be displayed 30 m (50 m on motorways) to the rear of your vehicle should you break down is now a standard requirement in European countries and it is recommended that two should be carried in Spain.

Spain also requires that drivers who need corrective glasses should carry a spare set.

A first aid kit is a legal requirement, so does the fire extinguisher

If you have a load, such as bikes on a rack, that protrudes beyond the rear of the vehicle a square, diagonally striped board must be used to mark it in Italy and Spain

'GB' number plate is accepted in EU but the ‘GB’ sticker is still required for Switzerland.

You should drive with your lights on (in daytime) in Danmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland (it is advised in other countries)
