Does anybody know of any products to protect the glass hob top covers of SMEV type hob/sinks? I've used "sticky" grip matting before, cut to size but dust and dirt gets through the little holes! My latest thoughts are slilcone "pastry" sheets cut to size but is there anything purpose made?

Thanks

for my daughter's i made a timber cross which held down all the top bits with a bit of bungee

glass top

is the question regarding protecting the glass drop down top to the hob and also in my case the sink / drainer? If so then I would be interested in any suggestions, although the glass is toughened it is not unknown for it to break (shatter) and it always feels vulnerable to something dropping on it out of a cupboard. Thought of thin wooden protective covers but just something else to store, maybe a plastic flexible cutting board sort of thing?

I think the silicone mat idea is great... it would not only protect the glass lid when it's closed but would double as a heat mat for hot pans taken off the hob and you can use silicone in the oven as baking trays. Obviously its talents would depend on the size of your glass lid but you can buy the stuff the mats are made from on a roll, with a thickness of your choice, like this example...

WHITE SILICONE SOLID RUBBER SHEET VARIOUS SHEET SIZES & THICKNESSES-UP TO 200degC | eBay

I also have a spongy (possibly microfibre but looks like towelling) washing up mat that just about fits on top of my oven's glass lid. I don't necessarily use it as a protector for the lid but that's where I put it if I have a lot of washing up that won't fit the drainer. Mine came from the pound shop I think.

That looks very practical, did you use adhesive fixing and what was Formica type material called and where from?

I was looking at replacing the glass with a plastic type material but having problems finding something stiff enough of the right thickness.

I use a local company in team valley for the Formica and used spray contact glue. FA73CD9D-754B-45FB-96C3-0A9F5FCBEADD.jpgthis what I replaced wife chose it I never liked it lolol.

having seen the results of breaking glass lids, i would suggest changing the glass for stainless steel

Hadn't thought of it till saw this thread but we chose a 2 ring hob which has no cover. Have others got one and do the pan supports fly off when moving?

Suction Mats.png

We use a suction Bath Mat as we had a glass top break in a caravan a few years ago. you can just see the one in our motorhome photo attached

If it’s for when parked up we use those thin plastic chopping boards, the flexible ones. Anything liable to fall off is put on the bed before moving
