Probably not the correct place to post this but it is applicable to motorhoming in general.

One of the highlights of our NZ trip so far is catching up with friends we have made during previous trips here.
Despite the 3 year gap since we were last here, meeting up again is like having said goodbye only a couple of days ago.

We have just come back from Jan and Toe's Art Deco house, which is stunning.
They treated us to afternoon tea which was probably the best we've ever had.
Had a great laugh and great conversation!

We've also met up with Val, Graham and daughter Glenda. (Thanks to Pauljenny for the initial introduction). Val is a great historian of roads and transport in NZ.
In fact, Vals Grandfather made the first caravans in NZ and sealed some of the mountain roads.

Then there is Helen and Roger who own a farm in Matamata, they became a second family when our Louise emigrated here and became an au pair to their children.

There are others we have reconnected with, which has been wonderful.
The only problem is, it is doing nothing to reduce my waistline despite exercising every morning and walking 4 - 5 miles three times a week!

For the pie lovers:

NZ is well known for it's many types of pie, most of which are superb, extremely well filled and LARGE.

A few days ago I had a hangi pie, which was chicken, lamb, pork and a selection of vegetables cooked in a pit oven under hot rocks. Usually takes a few hours to cook.
The meat and veg was then put into a delicious buttery pastry measuring about 7" across and about 4" deep.
It was a belly buster, any thoughts of 'saving some for later' went straight out of the window!

After visiting a couple of times I have to say of all the countries I have visited, NZ is the most friendly. My best mate emigrated out there in the 90's and I was best man at his wedding in 2000 in Auckland. Cracking place and cracking memories.

A very moving posts. 😨

A long time ago we tried to buy a art deco house where the skate park is now.
The guy that owned it got caught stealing drugs from a doctors car and under nz law he could not sell the house from prison. We returned a few years later and it had been demolished.
Now it looks like a skate park has been built on the plot. NZhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/qth4V9q6mBvhy95k9
