Morning Robert, hope you are well. How big an area does that cover?
There must be more to it than this! They can't expect us to drive for 8 hours (or whatever) through the night.Highland Council are to vote on Monday to ban overnight parking for motorhomes and campervan will update on the vote

were u park your bike ok ok ok mine is on the back of my bed okokok pjThis is the ambiguous bit;
"Should the ban come into force, it would affect car parks across the region"
It all depends on what constitutes a car park?

Same here. Hope your well PeterWondered where you'd been PJ. Good to hear from you.
They are not the first, Dumfries and Galloway did likewise, but none of which are enforceable without individual TROs. Public carparks are subject to the 1984 road traffic act. But let’s look at the logistics here, Highland region is about one third the size of Scotland, and very sparsely populated. Policing any ban would prove all but impossible. Simply putting up signs stating no overnight parking simply won’t cut it. Overnight in summer months simply does not exist, it never actually gets dark in summer so far north. Whereas in winter overnight could be from 4pm until 9am. What exactly constitutes overnight is debatable.Highland Council are to vote on Monday to ban overnight parking for motorhomes and campervan will update on the vote
Overnight = arrive Monday, depart Tuesday - no dispute. Or, as Fife Countryside Trust stipulate, parking free until 10pm, irrespective of season, then overnight fee payableThey are not the first, Dumfries and Galloway did likewise, but none of which are enforceable without individual TROs. Fife coastal trust put up signage in some carparks stating times, costs involved, and fines payable if conditions are breeched in line with traffic regulation Orders. And parking is not free until 10 pm, if you stay more than two hours it’s £1-2 in designated carparks. In others they ask for a donation, and request staying only two nights. No overnight signs in public carparks have no legal standing whatsoever.Overnight = arrive Monday, depart Tuesday - no dispute. It’s always been the case that purchasing a £10 overnight ticket covers you for 24hrs.We were at Ruby Bay last week and things have changed a bit there, so presumably in other Fife car parks as well. It is now free during the day (so none of that getting a ticket for the first free 2 hours!). The only ticket you need to buy is an overnight for £10 from (if I recall correctly but don’t quote me on that as my memory is going!) 6pm to 8am.
Much simpler system than previously. Incidentally for those that haven’t been to Ruby Bay for a while the motorhome spaces have all been moved to the top car parks and are really well spaced out now so no cosying up to the neighbouring van any more.
Sorry but how can squeezing all seven places on the upper section be less of an encampment than spreading them between lower and upper as they used to. There were 7 van up there when we were there last and we clearly dominated the upper section. There used to only be three places.The bottom bays are now disabled spaces. They have laid out the upper car park so there are basically only 2 or 3 overnight motorhome spaces around the three sides with a fair distance between each of the spaces. Provided there are no extra vans squeezing in it doesn’t really look like an encampment nearly as much as it used to do.
