Hi Everyone

With retirement looming later this year, my Hubby & I are planning a trip to UK - buying a campervan and travelling all round. Wild camping is definitely something we plan to do, given the awful forex rate between SA Rand /UK £ !! Have had several trips over there & usually hire a car & stay at YHA, SYHA and B&Bs ( Yeah £££££ !!! ). I did hire a campervan & travelled Devon & Cornwall by myself in 2009. This is NOT something one would DREAM of doing in SA, you wouldn't last 2 days ! Its very unsafe ! So lovely in UK to be able to drive and stop on the side of the road whenever. I never felt threatened & stayed in proper camp sites etc. What heaven !

Anyway - I am sooo pleased to find this site, as the advice is fantastic & you all seem such a great community. I am a great one for internet research prior to going places. Scotland is No1 in our places to visit again - Wester Ross & far north Scotland is THE most beautiful place ! but Ireland and Wales & of course England will all feature on our travels. Having been to many lovely places we have always had to only have a quick look and then move on - now we can stop and WALLOW in the beauty !!!!!
Cant wait.

Meanwhile - I will continue to peruse your site for info and tips - Thank you

Di

hi and welcome .africa now that i believe is a first ,you must be our first african member. when you do come over here you must visit south wales ,very friendly toward wild camping and some great scenery .dont take too long to get organized

Hello Di and welcome

If you do go to Wales just remember to keep well away from the sheep ;)
Some of our Welsh contingent are very protective of their wooly friends :)

Welcome to the forum.

As Mandrake said come to Wales and if you need any tips just ask.
Also there is a aWales group full of info under community at the top of the page.

It's a good idea to become a full member for the 12000 free overnight stops in the UK.

You will love wilding in GB, so don’t just stay in camp’s become a member and get the POI and enjoy.:welcome:

Thanks for the Welcome !

Hi, thanks for the lovely welcome !

Yep - Wales def. part of the trip - Hubbys Bro lives in Newtown. Have stayed in the Brecon Beacons couple of times ( and yes - my most fond memory of Wales is listening to the bleating of the sheepies on the green hillsides of an evening while quaffing a good wine ! ). Also been round the Pembrokeshire coast. Travelling up to Anglesey ( loved it ), I passed thru a very beaut place ( Pont Pen y benglog - near to Llyn Ogwen ).

We do plan to become full members closer to travel-time, as the POI sound really good. We don't have 'wild-camping' here due to the safety factor but our campsites are generally excellent and THEY are perfectly secure. South Africa is a truly beautiful country with extremely diverse scenery. Namibia is also worth a visit. With the afore-mentioned exchange rate (17:1) its a bonus for you folk in UK to visit here & hire a camper/tent etc. Anyone that would like info about anything S.African can just ask me - Im a real font of information hahaha !!!

Ciao for now - Di
