We are stating to get things like that happening over here now some roads we used to go down to get onto the beach for fishing have now got sign,s up showing no motorhomes.

I counted 16 motorhomes on marine drive yesterday.

But not for much longer, scarborough CC have agreed for Yorkshire water to dig it up for 2 years to fit giant sewage storage pipes under the road surface.

You see? Proves the point that they're just full of sh*t :lol-049:

does anyone know how many parking places there are from one end to the other ? if a space is 9ft wide ? it must be a mile at least that's 5280ft/9 =586 spaces ? 16 vans don't really seem over the top does it!! not when legally we could take all the spaces from dawn till dusk an they could do ferk all about it.

p.s.this used to be a favourite spot of our's but along with whitby and skegvegas it never get's on our maybe this week list at all now as we no longer feel comfortable with them.

I have emailed both councillors involved, off my own bat, not mentioning our Website. Will let you know the content/response if I get one.

I've written a comment in the local rag, for good or bad, as I really don't want to go somewhere that doesn't want my money. P.S. I was polite

At the bottom of the page there is a link to complain to the editor.
As response 9 in the comments says "[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Obviously the Motorhomes are not illegally parked, or they would be ticketed, or the Council could just have them towed away." maybe we should contact the editor explaining that the news article is not factual and that these motorhomes are not breaking the law and are supporting the local economy.

I have had a look at some of the campsites and at £210 per week I can understand why people do not want to use them.

However I do think that Tipi holidays UK-Unusual Breaks Holidays Scarborough-Campsite UK deserves a mention as they charge the same amount all year and that is a reasonable £14 per night, but they do have minimum stay requirements at busy times.

Had a reply already from councillor Joe Plant, this is the email I sent;

Dear Mr Plant,

I have just read the article in the Scarborough Evening News regarding the parking of Motorhomes in your district.

I would like to point out, that in fact motorhomers are in the main a highly responsible group of people who are very environmentally conscious and do not leave litter or use drains for waste disposal.
I would further add that we usually leave areas better than we found them by picking up litter etc before we leave. I belong to a forum consisting of several thousand members who own motorhomes and subscribe to this policy. The fact is we do not want to be restricted to campsites and often in high season cannot even get space on them, so where does that leave us?

In addition, we are holidaymakers, and therefore add to the local economy by using pubs, restaurants and local shops, just like any other holidaymaker. At the moment, more and more of our members are considering spending more time on the continent, where motorhomes are catered for in special areas called Aires. These provide water and waste facilities and local businesses welcome the custom of patrons of these Aires.

It would be sad if thousands of motorhomes boycotted English resorts to go to the continent, as well as a loss to local economies.

Yours etc

And this is his reply;

Dear Mr Mcinnes.

Thank you for your email.

I do appreciate what you are saying, but I also appreciate what the residents and businesses are saying in my ward.

I get complaints every year about this issue from Easter until September and even October.

Some camper vans are parked up a week or two weeks at a time on the road side and in council car parks over night.

They park in car parks overnight when there is no charge and then move onto the road side when there is a charge.

We had a resident last year take some footage of what was happening in one of the car parks last summer. They were actually tipping waste disposal down the drain. She told them that they should not do this and only got abuse back. She did pass this on to the Environmental department.

I do not want to ban camper vans parking altogether, what people are saying is that they should ban overnight sleeping in car parks and road side.

Regards

Joe Plant

I have replied to Mr Plant that I will report back to the forum (without naming it) for discussion, he does however raise some valid points!

I like that one "they should be made not to move between 12 midnight and 6 am, as not to disrupt proper road users" arnt we proper then? so if we are not real that means we dont exist, great, we can park where we ant then if we dont exist.

well, thats done it for me, money is scarce enough right now and they sure not getting mine, let them ban em, see what happens then, pfft.

I fear Councillor Plant is in danger of being charged with "discharging effluent", but he doesn't want our money so don't give it to them. There are better places than Scarborough.

i think we should all descend upon scarborough on one of their busiest days, drive through the town, choke up all the traffic then drive to seaton carew and go looking for that man on a canoe and spend loads o dosh there,

well for me its simple,

i will no longer go to scarborough upsetting all the decent local law abiding people that feel wronged by my presence and unforgivable actions of spending money there, I can only apologise to the people of scarborough for thinking that it would be ok, for me to selfishly visit their town during their busiest time........winter and dare I say it spend my hard earned cash, and oh boy is it hard to earn that cash now-a-days.

sorry scarborough i wont do it anymore...:mad1:

me neither, my days in the van a very precious to me and i'm damned if i'm going somewhere where i'm not wanted.

last year my family rented a house for a week, i parked on the drive, with the owners consent of course, as we are now looking for another family holiday this year, Scarbados is now off our list, so they have lost that revenue too, they are very blinkered.

What i get annoyed about is the residents comments, wanting to impose a curfew, lol, who do they think they are? i wanted to post in the paper but decided against it as i was angry at their comments.

They dont want to ban us they just want us to stop parking, so they want our money but we cant park, what about all the daytrippers that bring a picnic, sit on the beach then go home? are they going to ban them aswell.

Ive emailed them loads of times, they just dont seem bothered, the council are a bunch of whimps in my opinion

We first stayed in a Scarborough Hotel on honeymoon in 1970 and have been frequent visitors ever since often staying in B&B, pubs etc. These days our prefered transport is our van even though we also own a car and live within day trip area. We have never overnighted on the sea front parking areas but we do have our favourite overnight parking spots but never where it could cause offence in residential areas. We always use local shops and cafe's.
I have read the item in the local paper and really object to being called a freeloader.
If the ill informed contributors had any idea of the money spent on tax, insurance, maintainence, fuel etc. Not to mention the hundreds of pounds spent in Scarborough over the years I wonder if this would influence thier views.
I did look at a commercial site at Burniston which I believe to be of business interest to a local councillor but there is no way I will be paying inflated fees to stay on an overcrowded site away from the area I want to visit.
Congratulations Scarborough you have driven out two visitors who can and do pay our way. FREELOADERS?
I hope you will be very happy hosting the travelleling community to boost the local economy. We have found better and more welcoming places to visit.
