We're newbies to this site and wondered if anyone can help suggest somewhere to stay sort of halfway between S Wales and Scotland off M6 as we're going to West Coast of Scotland and don't want to spend all day travelling. Also any places on West Coast of Scotland. Cheers!

M6 night stopover

Just off J28 M6 @ Leyland there's a hammer head at the end of a Cul Dr sac, nice area screened but alongside M6 so there's traffic :sleep-027::sleep-027:noise, N53.69858 W02.67700 Moss Lane North. There is a parking place on the south side of M6 on Moss Lane but not so desirable.:scared:

A few miles from the M6 near Lancaster is this superb spot:

Very quiet, fabulous views - highly recommended :D

For places on the west coast, you should take a look at the Wild Camp POIs that offer hundreds of spots to choose from ...

Wet sleddale near shap / penrith.
In poi's, 5 minutes from M6.
Nice and quiet, was there 2 weeks ago.

When are you travelling? Right now, there are a lot of gypsies parked up in lay-by & on verges in Lancashire on their way to Appleby Fair. Caton picnic area was full when we passed today, four wagons were at Glasson Dock the other day though they've left now. Littledale likely to be okay.

I'd second Wet Sleddale, beautiful spot and near to M6 but without the noise.

Check out a place called Finnarts bay on Loch Ryan Stranraer , follow the track down to the loch side , we stayed there last week and it is stunning , make sure you have insect repellant this time of year in Scotland , it's notorious for midges and the buggers don't half bite.

Our famous residents are back! The prehistoric and most feared predators in Europe have emerged from their hibernation and are hungry! Best get smidge and Avon skin so soft out.

Too many places to mention on here to stop on the west coast, either look through other posts on this forum, join and get the poi's, or just drive around you should never be far from a good spot on the west coast, the further north you go the more you will find.

Just returned from a west coast trip from Gloucestershire. Shap was a perfect break point plenty of POI's around there. If you get there early enough the layby opposite the pub looks handy --- alas it was full by the time we arrived. The Wet Sleddale stop sounds good, might look at that next time we go that way.

Coming back we found an English Heritage car park along Hadrian's wall, very atmospheric! And stunning landscape.

Be warned. Road works seemingly along the entire M5 and M6 through Staffordshire will add a couple of hours to your journey!
