Help with rear view / reversing camera

stage 1 of the repair, fixing the failed LED's on the brake light strip.

I bought a pack 10 of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235190493037?var=535197272647

Closest I could find in size to the original LED chips. Only 3 had failed so they have been replaced. Unit re assembled and all working, re assembled with the original camera.

I will put that back on the 'van in due course then start experimenting when my bargain basement cameras arrive.

This morning I put the repaired brake light and the original camera back on the 'van. Original camera still working with the out of focus patch as before.

Then the postman arrived with my three bargain basement cameras. So I have powered one up in my workshop.

It seems to have a standard video output, the tv I have tested it with in my workshop says it's NTSC video not PAL, but my LCD monitor in the truck says it will do both so that should be okay.

The only "issue" is the built in LED lights which I expected to be IR are in fact white LED's. Since this is my rear view camera as well as reversing camera I don't want white lights shining to the rear all the time. The only "solution" so far is cover them in duck tape.

Re cables and mounting it and waterproofing it, here is my proposal

Mount that waterproof die cast box on the back, I can have any size hole I want for the cables emerging inside the box, then file a small hole in the bottom just where the lid fits on for the small cable to exit to the camera.

So I got the wiring sorted out. When I cut into the 4 core cable of the existing loom, I found a screened cable which is obviously the video, and a read and a blue single cores. Red was found to be +12V and blue found to be ground.

I have spliced in the cables for the new bargain basement camera with soldered and heat shrunk joints. I have tapped into the cable not cut it, so it is now a Y cable and I can plug in either the old camera or the new. The new camera works and displays correctly in the cab.

All I have to do now is sort out the mounting and cable hole through the back of the 'van. I want to drill a hole for the camera cables and sleeve it with something. At the moment the smallest tube I can pass the cables through is a bit of 20mm PVC conduit.

Oh the manufacturer of the camper replied today, with the details of the original camera. It is this one https://www.dynavin.de/en/products/...dvn-cw-930-lite-universal-brake-light-camera/

169 Euro's for a replacement like the original.

And the finished result, the new bargain basement camera and it's mounting box, fixed just below the original camera built into the high level brake light.

Mine mounts through a hole with a big nut on back, its sealed and no leaks, points down 45%, its above the n plate.

Do you have an actual link to that camera not just a picture?

The single bolt hole fixing must mean the supplied cable must have a small in line plug and socket like my old one. Something I failed to find on any of the ones I found when searching.
