Well, that was a given so I didn't mention it.Usually the outside one ,with not another vehicle in sight .
To remove a number the vehicle needs to have road tax and mot ( if applicable) to be put on retention. Some plates cannot be removed or retained.thank you seems as tho thats the only way atm and do it before tax runs out. in a few days time
cannot understand why the donnor vehicle needs to be taxed.. wish someone could explain the logic in it.
wonder who makes these stupid regulations.

We have 2 private plates 1 on retention with Certificate( cost £250 from dvla ) other 1 on vehicle when we bought it with no retention certificate , I did think to keep it but cant remember the procedure but it did have to be road legal when applying
It’s an age thingThis repeating yourself is becoming a habit you know
The £250 was because it was newthank you
sooo...it also needs to have an MOT as well as tax to put it on retention?????? was inform it would be £80 to put one on retention???? why did you have to pay 250? wow its complicated......
mot has just ran out and tax runs out end of may in a few days time.....phoned dvla and just keep getting different answers.....ask the same question to 6 different people and end up with six different answers....phew
It looks like things have changed a little since I did things.....time fly's by. I should have checked before posting
So it doesn't need tax or mot, though the dvla might make you get it inspected.
Looks more straightforward now

Have just had great fun with mine. I've had it 25 years+ and it's been on at least half a dozen different vehicles which always reverted to original number plate when I took it off. I always keep the number plates so it's just a case of banging them back on and it's all legal and good to go.
However, yesterday I sold my Adria, took the number off and back came the new number - and it's a different blooming number, so I've got to get fresh plates made up, which of course I couldn't do at 6pm on a sunday. So the nice people who are buying it have had to go hundreds of miles home and are coming back to collect later in the week.
I hate DVLA.
If you do it on line it is instantthanks for that Caz
so what you are saying Caz. if im reading correct/interpreting correct........
you applied on line to retain private number. so you are then able to put it on another vehicle and on the SAME DAY
had a reply giving you a new number to put on the motorhome which the private number came off.
wow that was quick.......i was reading that it could take 3-4 weeks...i wonder if that was because you have had the private number for so long a time and have changed it many times.....thanks for that info
