Can anybody direct me to somewhere I can get insurance.

I'm a Kiwi and have just arrived in the UK for a four month holiday (I'm retired).

For the last four years I've had my Autosleeper insured with AXA (had no claims and paid nearly two grand for the privilege).
Now my broker tells me that AXA have changed the rules and won't insure non-residents.

I've looked at Insurance Choice, but they require "Have been continuously resident in the UK for the past three years"

At home I've got a clean record and I'm the maximum no-claims-bonus.

My insurance expires on 29 May, so any ideas are urgently required.

thanks

Colin

Try Downunder Motor Insurance. I had to use them many years ago , hope they are still trading.

well if you have a resident freind in uk then sell them the camper and get them to insure it and you as named driver

Trouble is many insurers ask questions re. the named driver such as..... How long UK license held, how long resident in UK.

Thanks everybody!

I think I've got it sorted.
The form DownUnder sent me didn't work (macros in a Word doc).
I found Herts Insurance (https://www.hertsinsurance.com/walkabout.php) in a Google search - they have aranged insurance with MarkerStudy in Gibraltar.
The cost for 5 months is going to be GBP686, which is nearly double what I paid AXA for a year.

Now I can get a tax disc and get on the road - Scotland first, then down south, then France and back again.

cheers

Colin

ps Great weather since I arrived on Thursday - hope it lasts!

I am a UK resident since 2000 and have been refused Motorhome insurance from all the major insurers because I have a full EU driving license and not a UK one.

Going to swap it, fed up with all the BS

Had the same problem when I came to the UK. No one would insure me. Got my UK licence within 3 weeks. After that, a smooth run for Insurance. Now I have a UK, German and a yearly International licence. UK one, damn , as I have to re-apply because I am hitting 70 in Sept:☺☺☺

Careful with insurance companies !!

I agree with oldish hippy on this one ....BUT ...and it's a big but , (as you can see ! :lol-053:)

You have to be careful with insurance companies these days .
I only found out recently that by requsting a quote , many brokers , agencies etc , take this
as giving them permission to do a credit reference check on you.
Some tell you and ask if it's ok .... but most don't !

Why does it matter ???
Well credit reference agencies gather their information from many databases ( including banks,
electoral register etc ) and they OFTEN have incorrect or out of date info on you ....
... and how would you know ?

I personally believe that insurance companies will still take your money , even if they spot
differences between information YOU give and info they get from credit reference agencies ....
... and the first you would know is if you or someone else had to make a claim ...
and guess what would happen then ....

I'm not suggesting for a minute that anyone deliberately deceive their insurance company ....
but what is a "fact" can often just be a matter of opinion , or choice of words.

I came across this the other day .... FASCINATING ! ..... well worth a look

Cheap Car Insurance Job Picker: tweaking your job title can make your car insurance cheaper
... in my case , just one word slighty different in my job title could have cost me £50 more !!! :scared:

If in doubt , click on the box that says "is it legal".
