Just wondered if any of you might be able to shed some light on a problem just occurred this morning with our water boiler. Haven’t used it for a while now but switched on as normal and green light came on then shortly after the red light came on also? So I switched it on and off so green light came on then shortly again the red light came on again. Tried once again and this time green light stayed on. Left for 10 mins then Tried hot water on tap in bathroom and water was hot so all good I think.. Went outside and saw that hot water was flowing out of the overflow? So have had to isolate the cold water feed to the boiler so I can just use the kitchen sink until I find a solution. If I don’t isolate ,when I turn on water switch the cold flows straight out of the overflow also?

Thanks in advance Gary

Hi Gary

This is when you're operating on gas presumably?

When you say there is water coming out of the overflow, do you mean the drain valve underneath the van that is used to drain down the boiler so it doesn't freeze? Sounds like the drain valve is open or faulty.

Is there one of these near to the boiler, above where the water is coming out?

That sounds like a possibility.
Have you been replacing the van, moving things around..?
Good job you're on the site with water to spare.

Dump valve for sure ...

Mine is in the rear underbed locker positioned just right to be caught when moving stuff around.

I have covered it with a small Tupperware type container to reduce the chances.

look at the boiler when the water is flowing and see if it is coming from the thinner clear pipe connected to the hot water outlet located on the side of the boiler
Truma Ultrastore Elbow with Breather Pipe | Truma part number 34151-03 the joint itself has a breather for the boiler built into it ie a non return valve these are very prone to failing and will allow water to flow out through the pipe once the boiler is under any pressure.

Thanks Chris, think you could be right after some research on web this afternoon could confirm this. Have read a lot about the red pipe elbow joint that full timer has mentioned also but can’t recall seeing one of those when I had my head underneath the bed this morning!! Will have another look tomorrow but thanks for your help guys.

It is a good job we are on a free site Paul although the cold shower I had to have earlier was rather invigorating.. I fired the boiler up later this afternoon the red light came on again so I switched it off then on again and eventually it stayed green and I managed to get hot water with just a bit of hot water dripping underneath van from the safety valve overflow pipe. Had a walk round town this evening, a rather enchanting place I must say..

Hi Shaun, thanks, yes it is the same yellow safety valve like in the picture. Mine is set up only to run on gas. I think like you say the valve is probably ready to be replaced.

Regards Gary

Hi Gary, wiggle it about a bit, it might be that something has caught it and knocked the valve slightly open.
