Help I`ve been bitten

Visually, I prefer it when there's a nice dusting of snow on the tops, but prefer doing the tops in September.

I love going up in the snow especially in blizzards! Always take a winter sleeping bag and bothy bag though! (and food and drink). I'm going to try snow-holeing next winter, definitely won't need the Avon SSS!

I tend to travel on my own, so I don't fancy doing the Tops in winter alone - accident waiting to happen. Was up there in the Cold winters a couple of years back on Rannoch at minus 11 and not much warmer in the van with no heating. I did take a winter sleeping bag which is good for minus 15 or thereabouts and minus 20 extreme but minus 11 was too warm for it and I had to use duvet and a fleece instead.

This was January 2010. Not quite a blizzard but snow nonethelss. Crispy and yet still warm. Sat up most of the night by the fire under the canopy. True Wildcamping.

I recently met a lady on a wildcamping trip that swears by Avon skin-so-soft as an insect repellant. She is from up north and says that it is sold in many shops, especially in Scotland, as a repellant , us a lot by hikers....she said to rub a bit on your 'hot spots' ..wrists, behind knees, near ankles, shoulders and temples. Anyone ever used it ?

I used this for years and became convinced that the only reason it worked - a bit - was that it drowned the wee b******s in oil. Now that Smidge has come on the scene SSS has vanished from the outdoor folks' arsenals and even Tesco is stocking Smidge now! Keeps ticks off if you put it on socks and ankles...watched one crawl up to the smidge band the other day, then drop off. :lol-053:
