does anyone know where I can get a new lockable water filler cap for my 1997 eura mobil van? I have the hole plugged with a rag at the moment and online searches are not getting me far! Thank you :)

hi . i would google cak tanks . i,m sure they would have something, very often alot of makes use the same fittings . specialy things like that. you could possibly get a new push in petrol tank cap might be less obvious than a rag.

Try your local caravan/motorhome accessory shops - we got new caps for both our vans there!

I agree with Alan , I lost my lockable mallarkey 2 years ago in Calais ...a petrol bung has done the job ever since ...and no problems ...Naturally I dream of the vandals filling my tank with malt but thats a fertile imigination for you

hi channa if you would like to let us know your reg no. we can arrange some recycled malt.hee hee
hope the filler is low down.

I remember cantors they were on trafford way. long gone

My lasting memory of sprotborough falls was riding from warmsworth on my motorcycle and seeing a snake in the middle of the road ...on the first hairpin ...a car coming uphill ran it over... it wasnt happy .....I decided to open the taps and get away sharpish on my 200 cc suzuki lol ...No Idea whether adder or grass snake, it didnt seem the right time to ask questions.

Naturally nowadays I would stop and fashion a pair of shoes from the lil fellas demise ...yeaghh right ..

hi, you must have had the 200cc invader . i had a 72 tt 250 . came out before the gt . but had a fancy splaid head fin arrangement.
i have a tu 250 grasstracker here now . a single . was only a few in uk . but now a company in london shephards bush are bringing them in straight from japan.
i can still smell the walk down that hill .either bluebells or those onion smelling white plants .
we left in 63-64 just after that bad snowy winter. my gran lived in high road my uncle on sheffield road . we on lords head lane the back way to edlington. very posh i,m sure ha ha . can still see edlo kids digging the road up to throw stones at cars .
or walking the railway line picking up coal that had fallen off the steam train. good memories .

It seems I am not only more handsome but younger too lol ....my 200 cc was an x5 the junior to the x7 which was all the rage late 70s ...That said I did own a super six Suzuki pre Gt model with real points etc ...long story but a race bike I picked up in Kippax near Leeds, thankfully my pal Frank who was regional engineer for VW had a fetish for bikes AJS and Matchless were his thing and he sorted it out pretty quick, I cant believe that in my time of hardship I swopped it for a 250 superdream but there you go.

A cat with a tail In Edlington is still a stranger, and the Rottweilers walk around in pairs .....Since the demise of Yorkshire Main colliery Edlington is a pretty depressing area.

Never the less I still have an affection for Doncaster , and of course the Phoenix will rise again ...

A town that produced the Flying Scotsman, the Mallard (which still holds the world record for a steam train) deserves a lot better than its current luck ...Doncaster people are obstinate but strong in resolve ..Part of my heart will always be in Doncaster

bet your mate worked at charlie grays racecourse motors . my uncle was his partner at one time . mind he worked and had contact in just about all doncasters garages.bailey and law. jacksons . freddy kirby,s . also hilltop motors in conisbrough .he ran sprotbourgh working mans club at one time as well.
yes my tt250 was a supersix. i forgot the x5 there was a special road racer based on them as i recall.might have been the x7 .
keep saying i will go back one day and visit all the old places but dont seem to ever get the time.
oh well oneday we might meet and have a good chin wag. i still have 5 m,bikes a yard full of campers and trucks . say i shall cut them down ,then go out and buy another. also have a 30yr old teardrop caravan . cant beat variation.
i remember the post card just sending you a line from doncaster . it showed all the railway lines .if i remember correct it as more railway lines than anywhere in uk. or did.
also international they built things at donny.

Frank worked for Vw themselves he was an area technical guy basically sorting out the problems garages couldnt.

i remember grays, even more so Jacksons BMC dealer on North Bridge long gone both company and premises ...Did you know that the Ford Anglia was built in Doncaster for a while ?

I worked for Roodhouses at the end of Sprotborough road a garage too that met its demise in 1994 we were Fiat and Citroen when I was there but in the 60s we were a ford dealer....there lies a tale

Alan if I were you I would live with the memories it has all changed.

International Harvesters on Wheatley Hall Road.... Burtons...ICI fibres all gone buildings demolished too ..;no more than a memory.

Naturally the plant ( railways) coal mines are long gone too ...Doncaster is not the town you knew ..

Still we still host the oldest classic horse race in the world ...The St Leger first ran in 1776.....and only a couple of years has it left home and been run in York..

Of course butterscotch is a Doncaster invention scorched butter nothing to do with Scotland and was a traditional take home gift raceweek.

Sadly Nuttalls Mintos and Parkinsons are no longer here.

One of my favourite things in Doncaster is the race week in September and the locals have a saying ...which you may not have heard if you left young

On the last horse in the Leger , Jack Frost rides on its tail

Its true too ...the weather becomes decidedly chilly after the Leger meet ..

For someone who was not born in Doncaster, can you tell I love the town that adopted me ?

Channa

yes i remember race week.
if i,m correct bailey and law were the fiat agnt in the early 6o,s . might be wrong.
my dad did work for awhile at britsh ropes . he helped make the ropes fot tamar suspension bridge . he also worked in nylon spinners.
anotheruncle worked for pilkingtons .
my mum ran a fruit and veg stall for a while on donny market not far from the corn exchange . i remember going and spending all day around the markets or going over to the cattlemarket.
another was days going to nottingham or sheffield to car auctions . some times over to manchester way remember once we came back in snow through snake pass . all the cars got heavily damaged . there was about 5-6 bought in some auction . must have been 62 or 63 i was very young. mind we would have been abroad now usually went away in december till end of jan.alsorts of campers but i only remember the splitscreen campers . my dad had a salmon pink one one year . all demo ones from the garage . ideal . spain one time then italy turkey the next year year . its no wonder i ended up with my own vw garage and travelling alot. couldnt have had a better childhood . hard but learnt alot.

I think you are right regarding Bailey and Law, Roodhouses took the franchise circa 1969 I believe.

I moved to Donny as a youngster in 1969 my parents had a off licence grocers in Wheatley.

I remember on a saturday morning going with my dad to the wholesale market on Dockin Hill Road and like yourself we would stop and have a wander around the cattle market That too is gone.

Bridon , Peglers are still going the Vw agent is T Hayseldens who have had it in Doncaster for years I think they are a Barnsley based outfit originally.

Claybournes were the oldest dealer in Doncaster when I was in the trade followed by ourselves then Charlesworths ford .....all gone as manufacturers have swayed towards the groups representing them rather than the independants ......all a shame really

hi channa. the world gets smaller . my grandad lived in wheatley in stanhope road.
dont remember alot .apart from a chip shop half way up and the back to back houses with a ginnel lane down the back. he was ex miner . i remember you would think he was tattooed all over his body where coal dust had got in cuts . he still had an air-raid shelter in his back garden even in the 60,s . definate belt and braces . i can see him now just like a comic pic of a miner.

the chippy was called the little chef I think...our local chippy too

Stanhope Road was maybe 400 yards from my parents shop.

Indeed it is a small world

Channa

oh well youwill have to go on my mustmeet list.
the chippy was just a chippy in the 60,s .
cant remember much else. havent been back there possibly since the late 60,s went to his funeral.
seem to remember walking u the road chippy on left and there was a shopon the right hand corner. but i think we went down the road and turned left for another shop for sweets might have been a newsagents . too long ago. get thoughts of exthorpe flats ,kirksandel ,and names i cant place but never mind i,m getting too old. been nice remembering though. have a good one . should you ever get down here look us up.
i do remember a swimming baths and going to the railway club as a kid think it was somewhere near that tall block of flats on the way into town. thought they were great when they built them remember going to the top.

Balby Flats and St James Baths

Yes if you are ever up in Doncaster and I am about happy to give you a tour and point out points of yesteryear.

Did you know of the sand caves that were in balby ? filled them in when they built the flyover just passed the flats on the way out towards Balby
