help advice needed please

Hmm ....thanks meri.....thats a possibility...neg, was attached to body (metal)....was good connection
pos.had to go on a very small nut.......could be the problem
The fact that you had 2 chargers and neither worked would cast suspicion on the connections. The 'wiggle method' is a must. AND AVOID PAINT!
Many modern chargers do a diagnostic check before commencing the charge, IF the battery is absolutely dead flat these often won't work and an old fashioned dumb charger is what you'll need. If you've got any local friends or neighbours you could ask you could borrow their charger and try a couple of alternatives, Bill down the road with his charger from 1970 is probably what you need 👍

thank you meri.....i only had the one charger yesterday....i think the paint could have been the problem
ii borrowed a charger last night (which does work) so we shall give that a try......
looks like rain now....so it may not get done today...hmm.
my charger yesterday is probably the sane as what bill has down the road.....lol......gave me a chuckle that did......many thanks

Instead of replacing the charger if it is dead, get one of these amazing little things, it will start most things so no waiting and worrying, my vans battery is dead (on charge but not holding my breath) so I'll be using it to start the van and I'll give it a good run to see if the battery recovers and of not replace it.

And of course it will need to be charged now and then too, but in the house.

I have one of those in each car Kev, far better than relying on jump leads

I have two now, the first one didn't arrive, the second one came next day, the original one came via a neighbour three streets away about 9 weeks later, so I now have two, I di ring amazon and they said I can keep it as it causes too many problems getting it back and then having to check it etc and put it into stock again as a used item as the packaging was opened.

ahh...thanks rob.....paint work eh.....i never thought of that.....yes i attached neg.to the body...(painted).....hmm
when ever i have cahrged battery before (not in a long long time) ...,,i always took terminal leads completely off....(just one lead to each terminal)
or if it was a quick charge just to get it going.....i would just attach charger leads without taking terminal leads off.
however. daughter said her rac man said always attach neg to something on the engine or body////////i????
not having done this before i was very wary,,,,,,what with three leads going to neg terminal and two going to positive (wasnt familiar with that)
never ever thought i would have so much bother doing a simple thing like charging battery...........lost me confidance in old age. lol

i now have a different battery charger which i know works,,,,,,,
soooo i am going to give that a try........going to wait till sun xomes out tho.
cos its rather cold and windy out there............again rob many thanks
Fully charged batteries will emit hydrogen, which will explode if sparked. There is a risk that the second charger lead you connect will spark as it touches the metall... So the elves recommend attaching it away from the flat battery incase your nuts and it's fully charged.

3 problems with this warning from the Elves

1, the battery isn't actually charged at all, in fact its flat 😁.
2, it's a sealed battery not a vented battery so gas can't escape unless it's seriously overcharged to the point where the safety vent plug operates.
3, a battery produces hydrogen gas while it's being overcharged, it doesn't emit gas while it's resting even if it IS fully charged.

Switch the charger off at the mains before disconnecting the crock clips removes any theoretical risk.

Wrong unless you have the charger switched on which you should never do until connections made, and sealed batts dont do this, 50 years in the trade. (y)

ohhh...this is frightening.........

what.who is Elves

Don't worry Trixie, Fiat Pandas have a lovely battery attachment that is perfect for a battery charger, three cables on one side and two on the other on a plate,

so just clip onto them and then switch on the charger

Dunno why but I have always fancied a Panda, must be the bear in me.

I saw a Sisley off road once and it was quite impressive, always fancied a 2CV as well,
