Hello, Estonia anyone? Actually, Scandinavia, Baltics, Former Yugoslavia, Europe....

Re posted from newbie section.
How do,
I'm Kevin, and you find me in Helsinki, as my wife and I have camped through Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Suomi, on our grand Scando/ Euro trip.
I've picked up a few tips from here, so thought it fair to sign up.
We've wild camped through these countries most of the time, with the occaisional campsite stop to do the necessary stuff.
I guess a tip would be, in these countries at least, take the main road, then take the smallest looking road you can find off that road, preferably an unmade road, there you will usually find a place to stay, usually in a beautiful setting. The sat nav is also handy, a cheap 38 quid one from fleebay, with which you can see an overview of your own position, and look for dead ends around you. We've found nothing but beautiful lakes and forests to park in in Suomi and Sweden, and more lakes and mountains in Norway.
The only slightly difficult area thus far was southern coastal Sweden, where they are a bit sick of campervans, and can make it a bit difficult for you.
We're in a transit called Poppy, that I converted, and run on LPG, which is a great saving, but not in Finland, where it is illegal!
You can check out our progress holidayjollity, where I try to be honest about the places we've been and people we've met, rather than saying everything is very nice, which is dull.
Scandinavia is a beautiful land though.
If anyone has any tips on wild camping with campervan in ,Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania...please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Kevin.

Hey all,
As it turns out, Estonia is pretty good for wild camping, there's plenty of little roads to hide down, and not many folk to bother you.
Tallinn isn't so easy, we parked in a grotty camp site there, for about a tenner a night, but it was handy for the town.
Now on the island of Saaremaa, which is lovely, and will soon be heading towards the wetlands, to see Europes last bastions of boglands.
Lpg is pretty good to find, and about 53p/l.
Cheers, Kevin.

Hi thanks for posting the blog address will be spending some time with it as a trip we'd like to make in the future

Hi,

we are working our way through Scandanavia now. Currently in Sweden. We will be in Estonia late September if all goes to plan!

You can see our blog at Wandering Europe ! Get in touch and maybe we bump in on our travels :)

Nice one guys.
Like your blog Bob, and we'll keep an eye on where you are, an d hope fully meet up.

When in Estonia, go over to Saaremaa, it's a lovely quiet island with plenty of places to wild camp, and great beaches.
Still plenty more of Estonia to explore yet though.....

Well, we've survived a van breakdown, and worked our way around the Baltic states, which were a really pleasant surprise to me.
If anyone is heading that way, have a read holidayjollity
Estonia and Latvia are lovely....Lithuania less so, and people there drive like loons...there is a reason why they have the highest road death rate in Europe.
We're in Poland now, who seem to want to steel that record from Lithuania.

Estonia city to miss

I have been to Estonia many time, only wild camped on the island of Hiiumaa. I would avoid going Narva especially if your wild camping as this is on the Russian border and it gets packed with vehicles waiting to cross the border. It is possible to wild camp in Tallinn but you need to be well outside of city centre where you will find tower block after tower block all with off road parking where you might be able to park up safely. Estonia is a safe place and you are unlikely to be bothered.

Glad you got the van sorted. Heading to Estonia on Thursday from Helsinki. How did you find loo emptying and getting water in est/lat/lith?

Cheers Bob.
Enjoy the kareoke on the ferry over!
We generally wild camp till the things are full, and the water is empty, then go to a site and do all the necessary stuff.
Tallinn city camping is pretty unpleasant, but handy for the old town etc, and safe.
We basically followed the coast round to Saaremaa, where wild camping is easy( kurassaare harbour; un made car park in front of George Ots hotel,Vilsandi park, etc), as is Parnu(car parks on the beach) and Tartu (car park in front of the market, by the bridge).
We have also turned up at campsites and paid a few sheckles to empty and fill, with no probs, same in all three Baltic states.
My only concern now is that most of the Baltic campsites are closing soon.
Cheers, Kevin

yeh i was thinking that. So far we have not had to bother with campsites except for laundry. Scandanavia has been so easy to do the dumping/filling.

Figured eastern euro is going to be a bit more tricky!

Hi all,

we've made it through the Baltics, Poland, Czech,Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, and are now in Montenegro......
The only place where wild camping was frowned on and quite difficult was Croatia, which is very touristic and they want you in a campsite...although I hear Slovenia is the same. There are also still landmines in Croatia and Bosnia in places, so .....
Lpg is widely available....

You can check out my random thoughts here holidayjollity

Quick!
Stop what you are doing, and go to Montenegro, it's a paradise for Wild camping of any kind....
Particularly in October..25 deg..no tourists...Mountains, coast, walks....holidayjollity

Hey up Bob,
Glad you like Romania...It is really pretty, and really cheap!
If it's any consolation re the cold, we are in Rome and it is pissing down with rain, as it has through most of Italy so far...like being at home!
Cheers

What was your original plan?

Quick!
Stop what you are doing, and go to Montenegro, .....

Would love to.
I have just read all your blog - interesting reading as the first few months reminded me of our journey we undertook this summer also to Scandinavia, via Ger, Pol, Lit, Lat & Est. We quickly travelled through Lit, Lat & Est as we had pre-booked a ferry and had not originally planned to get to Norway via this route (long story for another day) so did not get a true opportunity to experience the countries. We are contemplating a journey to Russia and then down the various countries you have visited so am interested in getting info about them.

What intrigues me is the original plan you had as I have not discovered what jounrey you had originally intended to do and for how long.

Is this your first adventure like this? Would love to ask many questions - would you be happy to answer via PM, or share using the forum?

Regards
Stan

Hi Stan, apologies for my late reply, free wifi is not as prevelant here in Italy as other countries.
We have travelled round from Denmark through Scandinavia, Baltics, Hungary and Former Yugoslavia, and now are in Italy.
There was no real plan, just to travel in a large circle...and are currently debating whether to go North into bad weather or SOuth in to mild weather.
If I can answere any questions, I'd be happy to, although it may take me a few days to receive them and reply. I tried to pm you but couldn't figure out how....doh, so any way you like, I'll try my best!
My wife wouldn't let me go to Russia...boo
Cheers, Kevin.
Italy....holidayjollity

Mazola - I don't think you can PM as a free member.

Sounds like you're having a great time - very jealous! :)
