Hi
Can you use the van heating when the water is drained down with the Truma gas C4000 system?

According to Truma, all variants of the Truma C series can be used for heating without water. Check you manual to be absolutely sure, but I think all a Truma heaters can be used dry.

My Truma 4 has 4 positions apart from off. 60c water, 40c water, 40c heating and 60c heating and water.

I always thought it was the hot water in the boiler that produced the heat for heating the van - and if you are wrong you will probably burn the element out - but i dont know the answer anyway

My first ever trip in the van, I knew nothing about things like frost valves. On switching on the 12 volt, I lost all my water. Two very cold nights later, and after reading the instruction manual, I closed the valve, refilled the water tank, and had a cosy nights kip.
Relating this to a Motorhome fitter, I was told that I didn’t need water for the heating to work.
As, said fitter turned out to be a bit of a plonker, I haven’t had the nerve, or tbh, the need to try out the theory.

From the FAQ section on the Truma website for the C4000;

The statement "They can be used to heat water and/or warm air alternatively or additionally" would suggest that it is fine to have heating on without water in the system.

If in doubt, give Truma a ring, they can be very helpful.

Mine has 4 positions apart from off: 60°C water; 40°C water; [Off]; heating (with or without water, water temperature not controlled) - denoted by a gas flame alone; heating + 60°C water - denoted by a gas flame together with 60° and symbol for water. So beware, only the one position is suitable for heating with water drained.

Mine is a 2002 truma, I run it every year without water, still works ok and it doesn't have a switch that says heating only

Yes its ok to use heating without water I have a couple of times but somehow prefer to have some water in it
