Hearing aids

Well it's been three weeks since I had hearing aids fitted and I can say it's a strange sensation
but every Friday around 3.30 since I had them fitted I get a beep I was told they beep when the batteries need replacing I thought well that's strange same time each week but went ahead and changed them.
today I found out why
;) I pick my wife up from shopping same time every Friday we. Go home she opens the fridge and loads the food in it well I did not know the fridge beeps if the door is left open I was deaf

I went years without realizing there was a bleeper on the indicators never mind the electric step !!

I was pleased when OH got his as the TV and radio was so loud now though it is at a normal level:dance::dance:

My tinnitus is so bad now we have the subtitles on. It got a lot worse when I had chemo.

Made me laugh. I don't wear mine all day because I'm used to my little world & find it easier for the 60dB phone.
When Phill comes home I have to put them in & spend all the time saying what's that?
Everything we've got beeps; fridges, freezers, washing machine, bread-maker & the dogs squeal if you tread on them too!

No wonder I like my own little world all day.

You'll know if you ever sit at the bar & have a beer in my local. All the hidden nooks & crannies in the roof support beam are full of dead h/aid batteries.

What did you say?

Sorry, but I really hate that joke (& I use the term very loosely).

When I ask people to repeat themselves or have to explain that I cannot hear them, I get "What??", a big grin & laughter.

Why on earth is a deaf person supposed to find that funny?
Would you tap a blind person on the arm, say "See that?" & then roar with laughter?

Consider yourselves well & truly grumped at.

Fazerloz do you wear hearing aids for your tinnitus as my brother got them off his GP fo his because it got to bad for him and now he said it was the best thing he done.

I have had tinnitus for decades and was really dubious when told hearing aids would reduce it - but they do! (even if only while wearing them)

As I posted brother has a hearing aid for his tinnitus and we were both dubious about it but as you say fairytooth IT WORKS!!! So he told me just hope son is sorted soon

I ain't joking, I am actually "Mutt & Jeff", my wife has to tell me when I've left the indicators on. But I haven't got round to getting a hearing aid, don't like the bulky NHS jobs & I believe the "invisible" examples cost a fortune. Have to go into it.

No I don't, but have been thinking about it. Might seem daft but if you start wearing them and they diminish the constant squeal you are used to, when you take them out doesn't it seem worse.?

I am deaf in one ear & losing the hearing in the other. It is getting to the point that I will have to do something about it because I am missing what people are saying & I have that grin only deaf people wear, the one where you pretend that you are in agreement with everything that is said.
Partial deafness has it's advantages too, I can lie on my 'good' ear & sleep through thunder, being moaned at etc etc. I would hate not to be able to hear the sound of bird song or a beautiful voice or a moving piece of music.
Vanity is partly to do with my reticence to getting a hearing aid & like Spigot, the cost of 'invisible' ones just go against the grain for me.

What I find worse is when I ask what they said, I get:
"Never mind. It doesn't matter."
Then why did you **%** say it then!

I have one which I rarely use, not because its an issue or for appearance as I am lucky enough that I have enough hair to hide it. Yes it works, but I just forget to put it in .Not that I wear any, but I guess if you put it in to soak with your teeth you would not forget it .Perhaps I just need to be ignored if people speak to me .

to be fair, most conversation is pretty banal, and being asked to repeat it just makes it worse !

izwozral don't let vanity get in the way of hearing as you say bird song or a moving piece of music, look at it like this if you get fed up you can always still turn them off,and still just nod away,OH put it off for a long time he has two aids and he said he was missing a lot of the conversations. Even his voice was quieter,Fazerloz I never thought about asking but he has never said so it must'not make it worse he says it is the best thing he did was to get it,the one my brother got off GP is quite small, 😊

well im a bit mutton in one ear since my stroke but its handy as i put the wife to that side so i cannot here her yak yak yak.but the girls should were a hearing aide so when we shout for are tea they cant say they did not here us,head down now.

OH still does that he's for ever leaving all over the place lol :lol-053: well that's what he says any way:)

Tinnitus is one of the worst hearing problems.
Since I suffered a major hearing loss in my thirties I can't hear silence. I cannot describe how frustrating that is. I can remember what it was like to lay in a tent & hear the silence before the dawn chorus, nothing like it but it is only a memory.
My tinnitus isn't ringing or squealing, it's just like when you used to put a shell to your ear when you were a kid to hear the sea. It's a sort of rushing noise, with sometimes a nest full of baby sparrows joining in.

If you have any sort of problem get it checked & let the experts tell you if they can help. NHS hearing aids are very discreet these days. I have very short hair & prefer people to notice my hearing aids so that I don't have to explain why someone who is not yet in their 80s can't hear them if they don't look at me. No-one ever notices them! Most people are happy to wear glasses right on the front of their face, so why the problem with hearing aids?
