DSCF5945.jpgDSCF5945.jpg Just to let you know i have had a problem with 2 head lights bought of ebay. We have a Peugeot boxer and we needed 2 new head lights looked on ebay and there quite a few firms on ther selling them from about £45 to £65. found a company with good feed back, ordered them good service arrived in a few days. They looked great, fitted them and they looked great, so binned the old ones BIG MISTAKE. Went to the van in a couple of days and could not believe what i saw they were nearly half full of water. The company's answer was we have sold hundreds of them, a replacement was sent, another night of rain and yes half full of water. In the end i got 2 lights from a breaks and is now all ok. So if you need things like lights i would suggest you get genuine ones not ones from some way of country.

Like most light problems this could have been sorted with a small tap:lol-049: geritt small tap ok I'll get mi coat

Yes i did, I was just trying to make a point but beginning to wish i had not bothered. I said they were good because it took a long time to find s/h head lights, so i could not send them back straight away, and they had sent me 2 sets all ready. i think they have taken it up with there suppliers. They refunded the total price plus all postage, i don't think they could have done much more. So as the post was intended i think on this type of thing you would be better to get a genuine part. i do know a lot of copied thing are very good and save you money

sorry, but this just seems a bit silly, you say

"Don't buy these lights"

but wont pre warn people about who you bought them from, so all in all a waste of time posting your original message, unless of course, you want everyone not to buy lights of anyone on ebay

Ok sorry for the post but i thought it was quite clear what i was saying., obviously not so sorry again. may be admin will delete it for me

Priced some genuine VW ones up last year for Claires Passat they wanted more for the lights than the car is worth!

Boxer / Ducato /Relay / Jumper Lights

There's something odd going on here, and I can't get my head around it.

When we were shopping for a used Sevel Sud type van a couple of years ago, one of the dealers had a Citroen Relay headlight dismantled on his desk to dry out. He said he often found they were half full of water. It only happened with Relays, even though Boxers and Ducatos are made in the same factory and appear to have the same headlights.

We eventually got a Ducato. After a couple of years with no problems I reversed into a tree and cracked a rear light cluster. The replacement cluster (from Ebay, but it appeared to be a Fiat part) looked just like the old one but within a month it had an inch of water in it.

The best solution I've found is to drill a small hole near the bottom for the water to drain out. Try to use the van regularly so the lamps get hot and dry themselves. Not perfect but OK. I still can't see how the water gets in.

Another likely spot for water ingress (assuming that there are no cracks in the lens or the body) is the join between the glass lens and the metal body of the headlamp unit.

Of course, this "shouldn't" happen on a brand new headlamp, but depending on the price difference, it may still prove to be much cheaper to run some sealant around this join rather than pay a much higher price for one from the manufacturer, assuming that one is available.

And thanks to the OP for reminding us of the possible pitfalls of buying cheaper. I can understand the reluctance to name the supplier when they have been so fair with you! :)

just another place to store water, might come in handy when your stuck up in the highlands :lol-061:

and i have to agree with Scampa too, i wouldn't want to name them either,

But the OP has given their own valid reason for not naming the supplier on here. Even those that disagree with it should respect their decision, instead of repeatedly berating them for it.

Too much complaining about other members choice of principles only serves to discourage them from posting their information or views in the future, which really doesn't help any of us.

(I was tempted to say stop being an Old Nag, but decided not to! :)).

Well actually, yes, it is a problem.

There is no need to barb your "opinions" with immature sarcasm aimed at others. In my "opinion" that can make this site an unpleasant place for many members to visit at times, and as I said in my previous post, it can discourage other members from posting their own comments. There really is no excuse for it.

I'm not taking sides nor casting any blame on any one person, but one of the things that exasperates me sometimes is when people post an opinion, fair enough, but then they or others continually repost the same opinion over and over again every time when someone else posts an alternative opinion or the original poster attempts to justify their opinion. This ends up becoming counter productive, as even if that person is posting sound advice or a fair opinion, the frustration caused by having it repeated, certainly for me, simply gets my back up and I end up disregarding that opinion as it is monopolising a thread, and may prevent less confident or more sensitive members from posting an alternative opinion.

And as far as opinion is concerned, we are all correct, as an opinion is a belief, not a fact.

And for those who say that people shouldn't be so sensitive, well perhaps in an ideal world, people wouldn't be but no one knows what life experiences people have had which may have affected their self confidence, or their ability to shrug off what they may see as criticism.

And certainly, if someone has made the effort to post with good intentions in order that other people may not make the same mistakes as they have, I don't feel that they should be criticised for doing so. Instead perhaps they should be thanked for the warning.

Any supplier of goods which they do not manufacture themselves cannot guarantee 100% satisfaction, and the reputable suppliers will welcome feedback, even negative feedback, so that they can then avoid suppliers of dodgy goods themselves. It seems to me that in this case, the ebay seller has been very fair and it would not be right for them to be blacklisted on a forum such as this which has enormous buying power, for a genuine problem with a dodgy manufacturer.

And any way at the end of the day, it is dave and mary's personal choice about what they post, and reading through the thread, it seems to me that some of the posts on this subject have caused them distress. Considering the hassle they've had with the lights, to have additional distress as a result of simply trying to help others seems very unfair. And you never know, sometimes what seems to be a minor thing to one person, may be the straw that breaks the camel's back for another.

Just my opinion, not necessarily factually correct, and this isn't a personal attack on anyone. I just think people should give dave and mary a bit of a break.

Just reading this thread.

Seems like the only acceptable posts on here are like the thread 'Instead of just moaning'.
I have read many of these threads and they are mostly related to what we used to do in school for a chuckle. "Have you seen my plums" "Hooo you are awful" etc. etc. etc. etc. etc etc. ....... from about a dozen members.

If this is the standard of discussion on this forum then perhaps I won't bother with it.

Another typically childish and insulting response from you.

I've had a widely held reputation for being responsible, fair and mature for all of my adult life, but as the years have passed, I find I have less and less patience with so called adults who regularly display so much immaturity as you do, with your insults and sarcasm readily available for all.

I have no desire to try to educate you on the ways and manner of treating the other adults on this site, so instead of pointlessly banging my head against a wall, I think I'll go and play with my "little friends" outside. After all, I am retired now, and it's such a lovely day out there! :)

Some of you guys sure know how to put posters off.

Perhaps you would like a forum only used by the old whingers?

I fully support the OP, I can understand that they do not wish to punish the retailer who has done everything possible to cover their supplier's mistakes. Given that they did so much I would actually be happy to buy from them, confident of excellent service, even when a product let me down.

My genuine apologies if I came across as one of the whingers on here, and have spoiled anyones' day with my comments. I was really trying to defend other members, and to help prevent anyone being put off from posting their comments on the site.

Sorry folks.

:ditto: though I really didn't want to take sides
