Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of using a 'Uniko 6 in 1 folding car ramp'? Two would be a lot of money for basically jointed moulded plastic but I do want some 'levellers' and in a couple of years I will want some sand ladders and would be useful to have a ramp and its also a seat, little table, step etc.

If you don't have experience but want to add an opinion that is also welcome

No experience, just an item that might require further investigation.
The amazon description indicates a 3.5 tonne load when flat or stacked. Perhaps worth confirming (given the price) that 3.5 tonnes can drive up the sloped section without damage occurring to the section or hinges.

Definitely a valid point. My GWV is 3.5T and as I should always have two wheels grounded that shouldn't be an issue but I appreciate your comment and would investigate that. Thanks

I have a couple of waffle boards in the garage and a selection of bits of wood. Make a ramp as high as you like. Also usable on wet grass and used them to get our Swift out of a very soggy field.

Experience with Uniko 6-1

After recently buying a Ford Nugget and knowing that 'wild camping' will happen quite often, searched for ripeners (in the past many with a camper wild camping)).

After all, several comments on sites in the Netherlands and Germany, looked at the Uniko 6-1.

I got excited about the different possibilities, only the price I thought was quite a thing. By chance 2 used Uniko's can buy for the fraction of the price of 1 new one.

Don't expect them to be such heftyblocks, but well it's about the functionality.

You can only experience this by trying out all the manufacturer-appointed possibilities (and adding applications yourself).

Well, I'm all over. It's a few acts, but they're doing exactly what they should be doing (and more!) :

  • Getting the camper (front-wheel drive) stuck in beach sand on a beach entrance. Using the Uniko as ripeners, it can come loose independently (still had a 2nde car up your sleeve to loosen any😊. 😊 not necessary));
  • As a leveler cq driveway disaster fine (although those yellow blocks of e.g. Fiama or Obelink are easier to use). The Uniko does offer more height possibilities, but actually you won't use it as often unless you enter the Ardennes, Black Forest, Haute Provence o.i.d. (which I do);
  • To use as a seat asone of the possibilities described in the instructions for use is, in my view, nonsense, but it is possible;
  • Use as a wheel keg: functions really well;
  • Step-up. Well, it's possible. There's nothing to add to that.
  • Are you going to change your wheel? Put 1 or 2 Unikos under bodywork and you no longer have to worry about jack sinking into, for example, soggy terrain;
  • I also bought the aluminium profiles for 1 Uniko, so that I can use them in combination with the 6-1 as a driving board for wheelbarrow to trailer;;
  • On the internet can be found about the applications (especially for off road cars), but by own "testing", I am totally convinced of usefulness.

I think from general comments Waffle boards seem to be the best idea? If you are going to an Army Surplus store for Jerry Cans, might have some ex-military sand boards for sale?

A winch might be a good idea? (of course, that relies on something to attach to winch out of course)
Good Tyres are the first line of defence - absolutely speak to Geeky Philip about what tyres he has fitted to his Hymer - they will get you out of a lot of situations that might otherwise need boards. (funnily enough the day after we met up I was at a site and chap next to me was bogged down on his 4t Hymer and his boards just flew out when he tried to use them. Got out after maybe 10 minutes with some rocking to and fro).

I have waffle boards same as QFours, good for their price, but if you want the best, you'll be looking at Maxtrax. Standard ones are brilliant, or if in very regular use their Xtreme range.
Winch, also very handy. Nowhere to attach it too?, Thats when the work begins, bury spare tyre. :)

I settled on these in the end;

With regards to the winch I'm really hoping I will have the sense to turn around at any hazard that might need a winch rescue. East of Turkey I am hopefully joining up with a Ford Ranger so a decent tow rope should be enough. I have got to be really weight conscious as well.

Philip's are 'mud' so mpg and sealed road ride will be compromised compared to AT's but appreciate the 'sign posting'. (y)

I still think those Uniko have potential as useful 'all rounders' in the moho world but will have to drop in price first, will probably happen when some product competition enters the market.

You'll need a decent strap if you'll be recovering a Ranger every 100 metres. :)
Most important thing that everyone sniffs at, air down tyres when roads get tough. Unless you have traction control, in which case stay on tarmac 😂

Hope your wrong about the Ranger, that's MY back up!!

Forum member Dave10000 has kindly walked me through the Delica 4x4 system and combined with low tyre pressure I hope the boards and tow rope collect dust......that's the plan anyway.

I was chatting to Phillip about his tyres and the ability to air down the pressures to a very low level is something they can handle :)

7/8 psi when the going gets really tough and no recovery options, need a very gently right foot though.
15 psi is usually more than low enough thankfully.

I think your biggest problem will be the overloaded rear axle.

A weighbridge visit is a definate not a maybe also leaving me plenty of time still on my hands to adapt if necessary (y)

Don't quote as I don't have it to hand but I believe I've got a max of 1450kg on my rear so I suspect it will be tight and I don't think I will hit the recommended 80% of max load.

She will be 24 years old when I leave so I have to be kind 😇
