Hasn't this woman been bleating on about this sort of thing before?

the only regulation that applies is within the lpg legislation that is the dissipation of the heavier than air lpg gas so that is where the 5 mtrs comes from so awnings cars etc parked in between are irrelevant

Wot, even if people are sitting in the awnings or cars when the gas explosion occurs?!:ROFLMAO::cool:

The wider economy is at play here and the bottom line is always adapt or die.

Or be incredibly lucky enough to be a mega wealthy land and property owner in the first place. Someone who can afford to sit on their "assets" and isn't worried about their income as a large chunk of it will be mostly passive and unearned (unearned as in not having physically rolled-up-your-sleeves and "worked for it").

I feel sympathy for many small businesses who have had their back to the wall for several years now in a very rapidly changing world (and through no particular fault of their own), but not for moaning minnies like this who constantly blame the potential "customer" and expect everyone to have to do things "their way".

Rather than lambasting us, campsite owners should, if it's possible, be thinking of useful ways to generate extra income from us "passers by" instead of thinking that trying to "monopolise" this market will endear us to them, or make us want to stay on their sites. Here's a startling bit of news for them: no it bl**dy won't! 😝😎
Scotland as a whole is starting to make money from campers and not ban them. It’s in our genes, we’re a friendly bunch and tight with our pennies so if we have an opportunity to make a penny or two we’re normally good at taking it.
Is this wummin fae Dornoch English by any chance? Just sayin🤷‍♂️

You are right, Cal. 😂

The Dornoch woman is actually from the Highlands, her husband (of 13 years) is originally from Ireland, so they're both Celts. 🙂

It's a family business, inherited from her parents who ran it for 20 years before falling on hard times. They re-opened it in 2019 - so just in time for everything to go weird big time from 2020! They said they had little money and no experience at the time, relying on her mother to advise them (in a massively changed world?!). 🤷‍♀️

The other woman in the article is definitely from south of the border, they only set their business up about 3 years ago according to the article.

In all fairness, the Highlands is struggling economically. This is exacerbated by billionaire foreigners who've been buying up huge areas of land and estates and upsetting all the locals.

I do feel some sympathy, but expecting all motorhomers, especially the "old school" (and Europeans and Americans) who have been used to travelling around and parking up overnight not every time on official campsites is a bit daft.

I don't think this £40 motorhome scheme is necessarily the best solution either, btw. Guess only time will tell. 🤷‍♀️

This was there doing, akin to pub owners wanting to ban the sale of alcohol for home consumption. I thought this would have been mentioned by now.
Part of the wording on this petition is nothing short of slanderous, and any Motorhome owner giving this pair a penny, is either ignorant of what they have done, or plain daft.

945 signatures. Don't think that's going anywhere Bill. 😂

Possibly dealerships could argue that if this petition ever passes and comes into law up here it will affect greatly the sale of motorhomes and campervans, affecting greatly their businesses. ;)
What I fear may happen here is what many on here including Rob, and Caledonia have stated for years is there will be an explosion of Aires in Scotland, followed by a ban similar to the situation in Portugal. This won’t affect us greatly because I know loads of places were the only living things up here that we will meet won’t have two legs, and a massive chip on their shoulders, places where no one will know we are there. Anyway this would take years, and I doubt if I will be around to see it.
I suppose these Aires will suit the Europeans who come up here in their droves, as this is what’s normal across the Chanel. If I was a betting man I would predict a rapid growth in Aires, and wild camping remaining as is. With a greater number of Aires being available, this will relieve pressure from many of the current hotspots. But who knows what will happen.

As for the Dornoch Duo, (mr and Mrs Redneck :)) well they really need to go to business school to learn one or two basic facts. I wonder what kind of business plan involves insulting your potential customers, whilst attempting to force them to use your facilities. It pretty well sums these two for what they are, all angst whilst lacking in common sense and business acumen, and therein lies the real cause of their dilemma. I think I read they charge £15 to empty your cassette, and get freshwater, if true that just about sums them up. I tried several times to leave warnings on another well known site ( sorry Phil :() but they kept on removing my “reasonable” reviews ;). I received a final warning and had to stop doing so :(.

Agreed Barry, but anything’s possible up here with our government.
They love to be first to do things, just to make your lot look bad. ;)

We found that every “business” we spent money with on our first ever proper excursion up to Scotland ( Orkney ) people were pleasant, friendly and very helpful all the way there and back.

With a single exception: one person was quite unpleasant, very obviously an “incoming southerner” living (or holidaying? Maybe she was staying at her “second home”?! 😂😎 ) on the shores of Loch Ness. This was right next to a C&MC campsite, as it happens! 🤣🙄 She asked us to move our “diesel polluting camper” within seconds when we stopped momentarily (legally and not blocking anyone or anything - and nowhere near any houses!!! ) to quickly check something on our OS map. 🤡 🤷‍♀️
