I was bought the Vax 10.8 v ...its a great little hoover, especially for the car or van.

Does it charge up from 12v from the van? and how long does it last?

Hi Rob ...no it does not charge from the 12.v from the van. I leave it on charge at home....and when we go away just take it with us, couldnt tell you how long it stays charged for though as its so efficient we dont need to use it for that long. They are definatly well worth it as they seem to pick up well.
