£15 to fit a battery? Very reasonable. Not all batteries are an easy job to change and what do you get for £15 theses days and with a store in nearly every retail park if there’s an issue on your travels simply go to your nearest store.

Do you belong to the AA Carol? The nice men in yellow carry new batteries for sale... with free fitting

Last year when I came back from my usual 6 months sojourn in the sun, found the battery in the car dead as a doornail.

Couldn't even see the battery, it was down in the depths somewhere, called ADAC & a AA man turned up. he removed air cleaner & other large bits of plastic to get at it. he tried to charge it, but it was not accepting.

Just as well I didn't try to get it out myself, the AA guy used a socket extension about 1 metre long, which I didn't have.

He carried all sorts of batteries on his van, found one for me. It might have free fitting but the battery was very expensive, he said it was very heavy duty & had a 4 year guarantee,

It was costly but it saved me no end of agg trying to do it myself.

I had the AA out to fit a battery on my old VW crafter as it wouldn't start on the drive, no problem fitting the new one but the fitter went into detail how the old battery wasn't up to scratch and the wrong type etc "who fitted this"? to which I replied "you did", end of convo.

No, it's not unreasonable but I thought it was a free service.

I think £15 is unreasonable, particularly as their battery prices are high. How much does their sales assistant get paid for the ten minutes it takes to to the job? Under £2, I guess.

A proper battery dealer will fit them for free.

Ten minutes to change a battery in a X244 series cab ....................................... yeah right :scared:

It takes longer than that to get all the bandages and plasters ready for the skinned fingers and knuckles after doing the damned job :mad2:

I was under the impression fitting was free too, perhaps it is a charge they have eventually introduced ?

Whether £15 is value is a stated of mind and depends on circumstances

On the bike I could have rang the recovery home saved a couple of quid on the battery , fitted a new battery etc, but my time was worth more than the messing about and didn't have my tools with me plus would have been off the road for at least a day.

so in conclusion for planned maintenance any charge is perhaps unwarranted, if in a situation a distress purchase, or unable to perform the job lack of tools. time or physical barriers like the weight of a battery £15 suddenly becomes value

Amazing how people cant differentiate the difference

Overheads anyone?

Hi Steve, no not yet. I need to get a battery first! Thinking of using Alpha. I'm in Bradford but I'm not desperate until I go to Spain/Portugal in January. As long as the van starts before then! Might need a new leisure one too! #carolsbatteryfund@justgiving.com :lol-053:
