the habitation door on our bessacarr e745 sometimes locks itself when it is closed. any ideas on this. please.

I dont suppose you had left your engine running,this happened on my mitsubishi FTO,SHUT THE STREET DOWN UNTIL THE rac CAME.
Bloody electrics,my solution was to sell the car.;)
 
it is doing it without the engine running & key out of ign.
its not central or remote locking. its locked with key only.
with the key out & it unlocked it can still lock when its closed.

Sounds like you may have to do a bit of investigation,maybe something needs tightening.Until then i would make sure i carried a spare key somewhere on my person in the event that you forget to take your keys from the ignition and the door locks on you.That happened to me a couple of months back,pushed down the button and closed the door to then realise i had left the damn keys in the ignition.
 
as soon as i stop i take the keys out of the ign.
since this is happening they go straight into my pocket.

This has happened to me on 2 occasions now with my challenger. If the locking tab is down it wont spring back up when the door is closed, and then locks, sans clé.:eek:
 
it has happened with the locking lever on the inside of door in the unlocked position. it snaps shut , into the locked position.

Habitation door locking

Hello Tony

I have the same van. I have the same problem. With mine it is the door locking spindle that has worn and when the handle is pulled the catch does not move back allowing the door to open. It appears locked. the more you pull the more the spindle wears. I have dismantled the lock and tried to pack it out, but no luck. Have looked on internet and they are asking silly prices, £70 + for the outside half and about the same for the inside part. Intend to have another go when I next visit the van.

Just a thought could you change the lock around ie:- if lever is down to lock change it so that you need to push it up to lock it this was happening on our Compass Navigator so changed lock around and no more problems
