Hi to everyone.
A little about myself. I have arrived at that time of life when I have worked long enough now, and think I should now enjoy some Me time. I have been researching the camping scene for some time now trying to decide what van to get. As it will be used as an every day vehicle as well I have settled on a VW Kombi. I am waiting to see what the new one looks like when its released next month. Initially I will just throw an air bed in the back and bits n pieces needed for week-ends away and convert it to my needs as I go.

I found this site while researching free camping, I have this thought of camping by a loch and waking to the beautiful views early in the morning. I’m not sure if this is possible or even allowed in Scotland but I’m sure you good folks will tell me. One of my hobbies is photography, and this will open new avenues for me to explore.

A worrying thought has been the possibility of attacks by vandals while parked in a remote spot, has this been a problem for anyone here. I am aware you should be sensible and not litter etc, and stay off private land. Any help and suggestions will be most welcome. :)

Welcome to the site Georgieboy,

With that name, I thought you would have a big American RV of the same name.

If you trawl through the various forums, you will get a lot of answers to your queries. For anything else, just ask. :D

Good luck.

Hi Georgieboy, welcome.
Look round the site and you will find plenty of places where you can camp by a lochside and wake to beautiful views across Scotland. I think you will find that it is allowed more in Scotland than in other parts of the Uk but then again, I'm biased. ENJOY!

welcome we have been to scotland last year & this year wild camped every night no problem dont park in anybody's way & if you meet locals be friendly let them see you dont mean any harm. leave the place as you found it ie no rubbish left after you.
as for the choice of vehicle make sure it has wheels to get you around & a roof to keep you dry after that the choice is wide.
whatever you get good luck.

Thanks Tony.
I pride myself in being the friendly type so no probs there. I did read somewhere that all you should leave behind is your tyre tracks ;)

Thanks Tony.

Welcome to the wildies, Georgieboy! I think you're going to have a wonderful time if you visit Scotland with your van, esp in spring. For more than a decade I've camped, often solo, by lochs all over the highlands and in the south west of Scotland and some of my best memories - and photos - have been at that still, misty morning hour when the birds are just tuning up. I hope you enjoy exploring the many recommendations for places to stop on the site, and then exploring them in real time!:)
