Does anyone know if things like chocolate and dog food are included?

Yes, dog food is included with specific, limited exceptions. No mention of milk chocolate.

Just about to get on the train at the Tunnel - nobody asked about food at all. We even already ate our fruit tarts (with custard) to make sure they weren't taken

We weren't asked at all when leaving Calais....and had eaten everything dairy and not brought back any cheeses etc which we normally do. I even threw away the last of the milk just before the tunnel....could have had a cuppa while we were waiting in the (then) chaotic check in queue otherwise

Over 300 abandoned sandwiches have arrived at Dover in a rubber dinghy. Only a few still had their papers (the ones they were wrapped in).

Having been here for two weeks we've seen no sign of F n M.

We're on our way to Calais tunnel check-in now. We have bravely consumed every last piece of cheese and pate, gave an unopened milk away this morning, and will jettison the open one at the terminal.
Rather that than see the return of foot & mouth, footpaths closed, and our friends & neighbours losing their animals and livelihoods.
I bet we don't even get asked about our tuna sandwiches for the journey home.

They didn't ask about the fishy feet, or anything else. No questions, or notices anywhere, about meat & dairy products.

Some things were a bit more thorough. Where have you been and for how long? We also had a quick hab area & garage search.

It is disappointing when we take it seriously, but the message doesn't seem to have made it to the front line.

@Sharon the Cat it was the same for us 3 weeks ago. We had nothing of risk, but no checks on food.

We did have a second dog check, after passport control - did you get that?

I came back Dieppe-Newhaven on 30/4. They didn't check my fridge at Newhaven but asked whether I had any meat or dairy products.

We came back through the tunnel last week, they just did a quick half hearted look for illegal migrants, No checking of fridge, and not asked about any food

No, we've never had that. What were they looking/checking for?

No idea. We asked, but she just muttered something about a training exercise. This was after the dog had been processed at the pet reception, and after we had been through both French and UK passport control.

It remains a mystery!

The only thing they check coming in or out of out of Ireland is the camper bathroom for stowaways.

None of the customs officials either in Cairnryan or Larne knew anything about foot and mouth checks, just said that they'd probably be told if/when they needed to do anything.
