Well said!

I think that the move to put Vince cable as a mentor or restrainer for George Osborne is a good one

The cuts are going to be swift and painfull

The biometerics system will be the first to go and after that the hatchet will fall on the overseas aid budget, its hiillarious that we still give Aid to India, they have a space program and we cant afford one.

After that a trimming of the civil service

so NOT what we would like to see but what do we think will get chopped?

anybody??

So once again we have a Prime Minister who was not voted into office. If we were a poor impoverished backward third world country we would hold another election untill we got someone with a clear majority, but here? No we will just put up with this posh tosser filling his own dreams and to hell with the country. Sad times are ahead for us, but not for him of course.

morris..

we... the great unwashed, vote for our local MP...
the MP's select the PM

and you know what they say in politics don't you...
"we get what we deserve."

I thought that this little story sums it all up;

I asked my friend's little daughter what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be Prime Minister some day.

Both her parents, Labour supporters, were standing there, so I asked her, "If you were Prime Minister what would be the first thing you would do?"

She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all those poor people on benefits."

Her parents beamed, and said, "Welcome to the Labour Party!"

"That's a worthy goal!" I told her, and continued, "But you don't have to wait until you're Prime Minister to do that. You can come over to my house, mow the lawn, pull weeds, sweep my drive and I'll pay you £25.
Then I'll take you over to that homeless chap who hangs out in front of the store. You can give him the £25 to use toward food."

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless man come over and do the work himself and you can just pay him the £25?"

I smiled and said, "Welcome to the Conservative Party."

:)

No, a proper Tory would have taken at least 25% commission!

I am surprised at how much they have given the liberals in terms of cabinet positions & policy   but wonder if they are just being a bit sneaky playing a waiting game. They are putting them in a position where they have to go along with the tory vote so losing any hope of keeping their 'principles'.
Is it the end of the liberal party  if this coalition is a success then why would anybody vote for them again you might as well vote tory. If it's a failure (as much as I dislike both of them I hope for the sake of us all I'm wrong) why vote liberal you might as well give the labour the vote.
The body language between the two is good to watch, both trying to be the dominant one with subtle pats on the back etc. showing they are in charge. Personally don't see it lasting more than a year, obviously Clegg will want to have the referendum on voting first & likewise Cameron won't want this done until the last possible moment.

Interesting times  but for once I can say I didn't vote for either of them so don't blame me. :D

.

what was it... oh yes...never discuss religion, politics and summat else..
can't remember now...

reason is that there will always be a differing view...:D

Looking on from afar, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with a coalition of the Lib/Dems and the Cons. Most of the countries in Europe have some sort of formal/informal coalition and they (well some) seem to govern themselves OK. Coalitions amongst democracies are probably the rule now rather than the exception. Even within the same political parties there seems to be a wide divergence of views - left wing, centre, right wing etc etc. The right wing of the Lib/Dems is probably "righter" than the left wing of the Conservative Party!!

Historically when governments (in all countries) have had large majorities they have ended up being dictatorial - just look at Blair and Thatcher, neither had any regard for democracy. I quite like the idea of coalitions - it forces some restraint on all parties.

Surely the Libs/Dems/Cons will be big enough to cope with the odd difference of opinion and not go rushing off to the polls as soon as they cant agree on the price of a cup of tea in The Commons Canteen.

Personally I hope that the Lib/Dems get their way with electoral reform for the UK and maybe go a bit further and have compulsory voting with the ability to abstain (eg none of the *******s deserve a vote with appropriate consequences for failed candidates - guillotine??), at least you get the government you deserve!! One of my pet likes is the ability to "vote out" a sitting MP - with (say) 66% of an electorate voting to dismiss an encumbant they are straight out - no passing GO and collecting pensions for life, just a big fat zero like any other employee who does a crap job.
