Giants Causeway

Thanks for that. It just so happens we are near. Just had a great meal at the Caisleáin Óir Hotel. Settling down for a quiet but rather bloated night, so long as that tide doesn’t get any higher!
We were about to continue up the coast tomorrow, so maybe head inland to the National park instead (green route). Don’t know how much of the mountains we’ll see though, the forecast is crappy again.
The root down past errigal is outstanding, at the end of the road turn left and later right if you wand a beach walk to see daft eddys boat.
You could always viz wild ireland park, lots to do on that part of donegal, do have a good time.
PS do have a look at dunree fort.

Outstanding indeed, but today somewhat atmospheric!

Thanks for the info folks. Visited Giants Causeway today. Stayed in ex-park and ride in Bushmills, free. Bus 402 from Bushmills to the Nook 2x£2.20. Free entry to Causway via the tunnel. Walked back along heritage rail track path, 2miles.

Most will fall for the tourist trap stuff, £13 a head to get into the visitor centre. £10 for walkers car park.
£8 each for the railway.

As Trev suggested we were a bit underwhelmed by the causway, seething on a Sunday, interesting but we’ve seen much more impressive rock features elsewhere with less brouhaha and overinflated tourist claptrap.

Nature has replied with its own appropriate gesture…

We went to the Causeway and I felt really ripped off as we were pushed into the Visitors centre which was very expensive and total crap more of a cafe/giftshop with some pictures on the walls. It is not mentioned that the trip down is public area and FREE just walk around the building avoiding the direction signs and take the public footpath down to the stones. It is a national trust ripoff and they are just cashing in on the ignorance of the public.

If you have a van over 3.5 and wide DONT go over tor head, very tight bends and i meen TIGHT, do go to Cushendun where there is a big old house with some grounds and a church, nice walk round the flats over the bridge, if the goats tied up give him/her a sweety, friend for life.

As was said many years ago about the Causway,

“It’s worth seeing, but not worth going to see”

Can’t remember who the quote was attributed to.

Davy

Samuel Johnston, apparently!

See carrick castle on the way down the coast, you can stay in the car park overnight.
