Germany (again)

You won´t find a "Stellplatz" in Heidelberg but there´s a big one in Rothenburg o.T.

BUT: In Germany you can spend one night everywhere you want (only exception: if there are signs that it is not alloweded - but these are VERY rare!). The law says that you are allowed to spend a night in order to get fit for driving on - so if the police comes you can state that you are too tired to go on and that you only stopped for getting some sleep :sleep-040:! Of course you are not allowed to put out your camping chairs and start a BBQ - that´s camping - but everything else can´t be a problem.
Unfortunately the number of robberies on parking facilities are increasing - so it´s better to leave the motorway and spend the night in the next village or on an official "Stellplatz".
Enjoy your trip to Germany and the time here. I prefer going to England :).

Just to tell where you could stay if you want to visit Heidelberg:
Ladenburg: GPS N 49°27'58" - E 08°36'53"

It´s only 6km (about 4 miles) northwest of Heidelberg - 20 minutes away by bus. It´s not cheap (10,-€) - but compared to some British Pay&Display a bargain! Have fun!

What is the German attitude towards dogs [buses , bars , restaurants etc] ?

Usually the Germans like dogs. Usually you can take your dog into pubs, restaurants etc. as long he/she behaves and is not dangerous. Of course it´s better to ask the landlord before you enter. Maybe that the "posh" restaurants have restrictions - but down hesitate to ask!
Of course there are "unfriendly" people everywhere - keep your dog on a lead and everything is fine. There are special aereas where you can let him/her off the lead or usually they can run free in rural aereas in the fields. Picking up the pooh is not as popular as it is in GB - special poop-boxes are not as many as they are in the UK.
We have our third dog - so you can imagine that we are not "new" in this business. Unfortunately the dog we have now (a Swiss bread) is extremely defensive and doesn´t allow anybody coming too close to me or the motorhome. So we have to keep him on a lead - but in aereas where we can´t see another person or dog I let him run free. So you see, with a certain amount of "common sense" you won´t have a problem. Enjoy your time in Germany and give your dog a big kiss!

Thanks for that . How about public transport ? If I stop in a city I try to park centrally but it isn't always possible

Buses and trains: no problem - but you have to pay for the dog (sorry!). And you won´t need a muzzle as long as the dog is a kind fellow:dog: (different from Italy where I had to muzzle our former dog - that was like giving an anti baby pill to a nun!)
